This is Micho. He's another Posh Pets cat at the PetSmart in Greenburgh waiting for his special someone. He's a very handsome boy and, as you can see, really enjoyed playing with his new catnip toy from Mother's Comfort Project Westchester. He's also got an adorable curly tail! Check him out at: https://poshpetsrescueny.org/animal/?id=68828467

Meet Vincenzo. Mother's Comfort Project Westchester donated 25 cat beds and 25 catnip toys to Posh Pets for their new improved cat rooms at their Long Island shelter (see photos). We delivered the beds to their PetSmart location in Greensburgh where they will then be transported to Long Island. But we thought we'd get Vincenzo's stamp of approval. He thought they were the cat's meow and, by the way, to please come check him out! He's an adorable sweet boy who is waiting for a home with other cats so he can play with some friends! www.poshpetsrescueny.org https://www.facebook.com/PoshPetsRescue

Mother's Comfort Project Westchester donated 30 cat beds & 25 catnip toys to the cats of Puppy Kitty NY City rescue in Queens. They have so many wonderful cats waiting for homes. Puppy Kitty NY City also does Trap, Neuter, Return in Queens, an essential service to reduce the cat overpopulation and humanely, safely trap, spay/neuter, ear-tip the right ear (to show they've been altered), and either find a home, if socialized and adoptable, or return them to their community home. Please visit their adoptions page (they also have dogs for adoption) https://www.puppykittynyc.org/adopt.html . And please consider fostering to get a cat out of the shelter while waiting for their furrever family.

NYC Second Chance Rescue opened up a rescue center in Queens (in addition to the dog shelter in Verplanck). Mother's Comfort Project Westchester was happy to bring them 37 cat & small/medium dog beds and 25 catnip toys for the animals at the new location. Jennifer Brooks, co-founder, is pictured with the beds, along with views of the beautiful new cat rooms and some cozy cats. Please visit their adoption page https://nycsecondchancerescue.org/adopt/ or consider fostering https://nycsecondchancerescue.org/foster/ .

As promised, photos of some of the dogs at NYC Second Chance Rescue on their 26 new Mother's Comfort Project Westchester beds (most of them really big dog beds for the bigger dogs). We are so glad that the bigger beds truly fit the Karanda beds so well. These dogs truly need to find their forever homes. They are in the best shelter, truly cared for with multiple walks every day. But many of them have just been there too long. Please visit their adoption page https://nycsecondchancerescue.org/adopt/ or consider fostering https://nycsecondchancerescue.org/foster/ . Fostering is so important as it helps them get out of the shelter, acclimate to a home environment, destress, and let their true personalities shine which helps them to find their best home. Please share this post.

Last week, our volunteer Deb Cohn-Orbach delivered 20 beds and 70 catnip toys to Bideawee animal shelter in New York City. Both cats and dogs were seen enjoying their new plush beds. With this extra bit of comfort, they now have a place to heal, play, and nap while waiting for their forever homes. This is the mission of Mother's Comfort Project.

What to do on a rainy day in New York City? Volunteer Deb Cohn-Orbach’s thoughts turned to the homeless cats in the shelters waiting for their forever home. She made 62 catnip toys on behalf of Rational Animal to keep them busy and add some joy to their lives 😻.

Stewie thoroughly enjoyed inspecting the new catnip toys and 50 new beds donated to Animal Nation for their new cat adoption location at PetSmart in Stamford, Ct (288 West Avenue). She gave them her stamp of approval. They expect the grand opening of the Stamford location to be in early February (keep in touch on their website, www.animalnation.org). In the meantime, you can visit the cats up for adoption at their other location at PetSmart in Norwalk, CT (525 Connecticut Avenue). Stewie is one of many barn cats at Animal Nation's Farm Sanctuary where they care for approximately two hundred animals...horses, cows, sheep, goats, emus, pigs, geese, ducks etc. They also have a wildlife rehabilitation center helping many injured animals return healthfully to their wild homes. They are an amazing organization. Please donate, volunteer and adopt!

Our NYC volunteer Deb donated 48 handmade beds and 127 catnip toys on behalf of Rational Animal to NYACC (Animal Care & Control). We are so grateful they allowed her into the cat rooms to place some beds and toys in the cat’s cages. There is an upcoming senior cat adoption event. Watching the older cats with our catnip toys allows potential adopters to see their active and playful sides. Knowing the cats are relaxing on our beds is so satisfying. This is why Deb makes Mother’s Comfort project her mission.

Photos from Rational Animal's post 11/02/2023

Our volunteer Deb is having fun assembling cat and dog beds with donated fabric scraps. Pretty soon the animals in the NYC shelters will have some comfort in their cages.

Bideawee in NYC has opened their new location in Chelsea, and we went back to photograph the kittens, puppies and dogs on the beds and playing with the toys that we crafted and donated. It's so rewarding to add comfort to their cages while they wait for their forever homes. The shelters are overloaded with pets right now. Adopt, don't shop.

Photos from Rational Animal's post 07/29/2023

Volunteers Deb Cohn-Orbach, Tiger Buchman and Lee Ebbs crafted 100 cat/dog beds, 160 catnip toys, 100 kitten spiders and 20 dog pull toys. They were delivered this week to Bideawee in NYC. The pets will have these comfort items when Bideawee opens in their new location in a couple of days.

Sewing at home does have its drawbacks, especially when it is time to pack up the beds and prepare for a delivery-lol.

Photos from Rational Animal's post 06/27/2023

Rational Animal donated 30 cat beds, 150 kitten spider toys, and 150 catnip toys, created by our volunteer Tiger Buchman, to Joanne Pacheco. Joanne is a certified TNR rescue powerhouse. She turned an entire room in her home to a fostering space. The cats inhabiting it will be the recipient of Tiger’s handiwork.

Sending out big thanks to Croton Pet Station, www.crotonpetstation.com, for supporting Mother's Comfort Project Westchester by selling our home-made catnip toys. If you're not in the Westchester, NY area, you can still purchase these adorable bags of 4 catnip toys at the Rational Animal store, https://rationalanimal.storenvy.com/. All proceeds go to support our programs to comfort at-risk animals while they're waiting for their furrever homes. Much gratitude to our volunteer Marylou Santoro for making these toys.

Photos from Rational Animal's post 02/21/2023

For the second consecutive year, New York volunteer Tiger accepted the Betty White Challenge. She created 100 beds and small animal and catnip toys. Tiger and Deb combined forces and made deliveries to several shelters around the five boroughs.

Our New York City volunteer Deb contributes to our mission by sewing beds for shelter cats. Her own cats provide quality control.

Our Story

We were founded in New York City in 2002 by Susan Brandt to increase awareness and help at-risk animals using media and special events. We have achieved a lot, working with the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals under Michael Bloomberg to air TV spots and posters to promote adoption and spay and neuter; creating Gingerbread Homes for Animals, a holiday event to increase awareness for all animals around the city - domestic, wild and working; creating NYC’s first shelter map; registering the Orange Ribbon to represent at-risk animals with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office; running Mother’s Comfort Project to sew now over 10,000 beds for animals in shelters in NYC, Westchester County and now in Sacramento and Grass Valley, California...soon in Salt Lake City. We are all volunteers working to help at-risk animals. Please support us!
