Recovering from a total knee replacement is a slow process and can feel, in the immediate postoperative period, like very little progress is being made. However, a dedicated and consistent approach to recovering will always yield the best results.
It is important to try to mobilize as soon as possible after your knee replacement surgery. This will be tricky immediately following the surgery as you will feel sore and have some pain, which will hopefully be controlled by the pain medications your surgeon will prescribe you.

Hip or Leg swelling after hip replacement surgery is a natural response of the body to the trauma endured by the tissues during the surgery. Normally the swelling would decrease over a period of days, weeks, or even months.
However, excessive swelling after hip replacement may also be a sign of infection or deep vein thrombosis. The treating surgeon usually prescribes medications after the surgery to prevent infection and deep vein thrombosis.

Hip joint is a large weight bearing ball and socket joint. The ball is formed by the upper part of the thigh bone (femur) which fits into a socket formed by the acetabulum, which is part of the large pelvic bone.
The ball and the socket are covered by a smooth glistening white tissue known as cartilage. It helps in the smooth gliding of the ball in various movements about the joint such as walking, running, squatting, sitting cross legged.

Fractures of the vertebral column commonly result from motor vehicle accidents, a fall from a height, gunshot injuries, or sports injuries. The compression fractures of the vertebra commonly result in trivial falls in the elderly population as a result of osteoporosis.
The fractures of the spine may sometimes be managed with conservative treatment such as bracing but occasionally may require operative management.

Hip replacement surgery is considered one of the most successful operations in modern medicine. The surgery relieves the pain and stiffness caused by various affections of the hip joint promising patients a lifestyle they enjoyed before the disease.
Traditionally the surgery has been usually performed from the back (posterior approach) and side (lateral) of the hip. Recently, surgeons have been performing surgeries from the front known as the anterior approach. The anterior approach offers a faster recovery rate and less postoperative pain.

Scoliosis is the abnormal side to side curvature of the spine. The shape and size of the vertebrae in the cervical, thoracic and sacral segments result in a characteristic double S shape of the vertebral column.
The cervical spine is naturally bent with an inward curve, the thoracic is bent with an outward curve and the lumbar is bent with an inward curve. The natural curves of the spine help the spine in bearing weight and provide more flexibility in movement.

The nerve root block is usually performed in patients who present with radiculopathy, also known as Sciatica. These patients present with pain radiating down from their back of buttocks, into their thigh and calf usually along the outer or the back of the thigh and leg.
The pain may go into the foot also. This pain may be associated with tingling or numbness. Most of these patients have disk herniation or degenerative stenosis with compression of the nerve root leading to symptoms.

Anterior hip replacement is a hip replacement surgery performed through an anterior surgical approach. Traditionally, hip replacements have been performed through posterior or lateral approaches. Both of these surgical approaches involve dissection of muscles or tendons that are involved in a normal gait cycle the process of walking.
The anterior surgical approach is unique in that it involves minimal disruption to the muscles and tendons surrounding the hip joint, and as such, allows for quicker recovery from the hip replacement procedure.

The knee joint is made up of four bones. The femur or thighbone is the bone connecting the hip to the knee. The tibia or shinbone connects the knee to the ankle. The patella (kneecap) is the small bone in front of the knee and rides on the knee joint as the knee bends.
The fibula is a thinner bone running parallel to the tibia on its outside. The knee joint acts like a hinge but with some degrees of rotation also.

It also has knee cap or the patella in front, which essentially moves in a groove over the front of the lower end of the thigh bone called trochlea.
The lower end of the thigh bone and the upper end of the shin bone articulate with each other in two compartments, the inner or the medial compartment and the outer or the lateral compartment.
