🎬🌟 Special Guest Announcement! 🌟🎬

We are thrilled to welcome the incredible CS Lee to Camp Naru this year! 🎉

CS Lee, best known for his role as Vince Masuka on the hit TV series Dexter, is joining us as a special guest this summer!

CS Lee is an American actor and comedian who has been bringing unforgettable characters to life on screen for the past 20 years. Known for his in-depth roles and unwavering commitment to storytelling, he has made lasting impressions with his performances. You might recognize him from hit shows like Chuck, Fresh Off The Boat, and Nora From Queens. Most recently, he brought Avatar Roku to life in the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender and appeared as Master Kim Sun Yung in season six of Cobra Kai.

With a rich background in acting and a wealth of experience in the entertainment industry, CS Lee will be sharing his insights and stories with our campers. His journey from a Korean immigrant to a successful actor in Hollywood is truly inspiring, and we can’t wait for him to share his experiences and wisdom with all of you.

Julie joined Camp Naru for the first time this summer. She will take us on a creative journey with Korean traditional accessories, Norigae, and small ceramic paintings. Just a friendly reminder that the deadline for all forms and payments is approaching on April 1, 2024.
Please take a moment to review the details outlined in our recent email, covering FORMS, PAYMENTS, and SCHOLARSHIP information.

We're excited to announce our winter gathering event - a Sweet Sweet Reunion and New Family Welcome.

On January 6th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, we will be reserving a private space (Polar Lounge) next to the ice rink, where we will have a few sweet treats.

The event is open to all of our camp families and free to participate. We do ask that you help us keep track of your intentions to come by completing this reservation.

We're so excited to announce Camp Naru 2024 applications will be open and available starting November 15!

Please remember that each of our age cohorts - Green, Blue, Orange, and Red - have limited spaces. There may be instances where there is space in one cohort but not the other.

We strongly encourage you to apply as soon as possible. If you are seeking financial assistance, you are still required to apply and we ask that you do so before completing your scholarship application.

**Your camper must be turning 9 within the calendar year of 2024 - to be eligible for camp. Therefore, this application is available for those campers that were born in 2015 through 2008.

NEW VIDEO ALERT! What better way to start the week than to watch a video recap of Camp Naru 2023?! 🤩

🌲 With 180 campers from 11 different states, Camp Naru continued with an action-packed second year! Everyone had loads of fun from cultural classes and outdoor activities during the day and special events in the evening.

⭐️ Camp Naru hosted an incredible group of Korean American icons and role models representing culinary arts, music, dancing, and entertainment. (Check out the video to see who they are! 😎)

🙌 Camp Naru is looking forward to continue building a safe and fun space for Korean American youth this summer. Stay tuned for exciting updates as we get closer to opening applications for 2024!

- Orange Line (13-14)
- Red Line (15-16)
Our cabin names align with a stop on that subway line.

Our last community program before camp. We are officially less than 50 days away from Naru 2023.

We invite all of our enrolled families to the camper meet and greet, Saturday, July 22, 2023 in Madison Sq. Park at 2:00 PM.

This will be a great opportunity for campers to meet their cabinmates, see friends from last year, or make new connections in time for Naru 2023.

We will be providing limited bites from Shake Shack but, if you prefer, you're encouraged to check out many of the local eatery options around the park too. Please plan to bring a picnic blanket and/or chairs for your family!

In addition, current staff members and leadership will be available to answer any questions you might have about camp - from A-Z.

Excited to share with you all that Brooke will be joining camp this year as our Korean fan dance instructors! We're super excited to have you!

Han G-in Brooke Newmaster [she/they] is based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. G-in runs JangmiArts, a Korean traditional dance, drumming, music and arts program for Korean Adoptees, their children and families, and other Korean Americans. JangmiArts also provides additional outreach for the general Twin Cities community and promotes multiculturalism, LGBTQIA+ initiatives, and ongoing Anti Racism education resources. G-in is currently working on their second Korean dance & percussion + western orchestra collaboration piece.

Excited to share with you all that Chelsie is returning and that Jinhee will be joining camp this year as two of our Korean Language Arts instructors! We're super excited to have you!

Chelsie taught Korean at Camp Naru last summer and is excited to be coming back as one of the Korean Language instructors. She graduated with a BA in elementary education from Boston College and a MA in Teaching from the University of Southern California. She is currently a 3rd grade teacher at an elementary school in Harlem, NYC. She has worked with preschool to high school aged youth in many different settings including day and overnight camps and public, charter, private schools in urban and suburban settings. She has a strong passion for teaching and finds joy in creating and teaching fun and engaging lessons. She looks forward to making sure all campers find enjoyment in learning the Korean language!

Jinhee moved to New York City in 2021 from Seoul, South Korea. She has been an artist, craftsperson, drawing instructor, writer, gardener, and researcher. Now she is happy to be a Korean Language instructor and share interesting Korean cultures with campers.

Excited to share with you all that Jonathan and Bryant will be joining camp this year as two of our drum instructors! We're super excited to have you!

We’re Bryant and Jonathan, and we’re so excited to be teaching Korean drums at Camp Naru this year. We’ve both been playing the drums since high school, and would love to share this piece of Korean culture with you all. This year we will be introducing a few of the instruments typically played in samulnori, a genre of traditional Korean music, and will be teaching some of the base garaks, or rhythms, that lay the foundation for this type of music. We hope you can learn more about the Korean drums, its history, as well as a short piece during our time together.

Excited to share with you all that Lobel will be joining camp this year as one of our dance instructors! We're super excited to have you!

LoBel(Gyeun Jeong) was born in Seoul, Korea. She began dancing at the young age of five and became interested in jazz dance when she turned 12. After discovering popping at age 14, she started experimenting with all types of dance such as Tap, Contemporary, ballet, African, Jazz, Hip Hop, locking, house, etc. She moved to New York at 19 to further her dance career. Since then, she has been working professionally and traveling the world as a dance artist, instructor, competitor, and judge for a variety of events.

Excited to announce that we are having Hannah and her mother, who will be joining us as a special guest instructors for Camp Naru.

She is a Korean-American calligrapher, stationer, and illustrator from New York. She has been making handmade cards for the past ten years, and loves sewing, drawing, and painting. Her favorite medium is watercolor, but she loves learning new ways to create. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her dog, Barley.

Looking forward to seeing you instruct at camp!
