“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re RIGHT!”

Think of all the “EASY” goals that you’ve achieved without any anxiety. They were easy because you deemed them so. You knew you could do them without great difficulty and you did! Now imagine if you had the same mindset for a CHALLENGING goal. Often what makes something challenging is the belief that it will be difficult to accomplish. While some endeavors may be inherently more difficult than others, your MENTALITY has a larger impact on their “difficulty” level than anything else.

If you want to accelerate your vocal progress, start by examining your mindset. It’s really as “easy” as that!😃

Practice the PROCESS - not the product!🎤

Everyday we are new and different human beings. Our bodies and minds shift slightly. So do our voices. It’s part of the beauty of being human. This is the same reason that delivering a perfect performance is an impossible challenge. Even if you ever gave one, it would change immediately. So, when you’re feeling down before a show or audition, keep in mind that the process is always more beautiful than the product. Strive for your ideal performance, but remember that true art is created in the soulful and audacious efforts you give each day. Falling slightly short may be the very thing that makes you a lovable performer... and a lovable human being.

Vocal PRACTICE. What does that really mean to you?🎤

Does it evoke feelings of something that’s a chore, a task, a necessity, or a duty? If so, maybe think of another example of PRACTICE - A Yoga Practice.

A Yogi “practicing” Yoga doesn’t have a relationship of HARD WORK with their Practice. Instead, they enter into a sacred space. A space where they are FREE to move, play, breathe, explore, feel, experiment, fall down, lengthen, strengthen, tone, fail, succeed, and love.

What if we saw our Vocal Practice this way as well? What if we saw our Practice as a very “imperfect”, yet beautiful inner experience? If we did, we’d probably find a much greater Joy whenever practice time rolls around. In fact, we’d probably want to get to practicing right away! NAMASTE!🙂

Happy 4th of July to all of our USA singers!🇺🇸

Did you know that the tune for the American National Anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” was originally written for a British gentlemen’s club called the Anacreontic Society? The melody has a range of an octave and one fifth. That’s a pretty big range for many singers to navigate!

If you’re having trouble hitting those high notes at the end, be sure you’re starting the first phrase in a very low range for your voice. There’s a long way to go before you reach the top! But, never forget that all great nations and all great singers start in low and humble places before they reach their greatest heights! This Independence Day, let freedom (and your voice) RING!🎤🎆

“Am I too old to sing?”. This is a question asked by 17-year olds. This is a question asked by 30-year olds. It’s asked by 50-years olds. And, by 70-year olds. But, if it’s a question that virtually everyone asks themselves, then there’s something wrong with the question.

Singing is meant for everyone to enjoy and to succeed at regardless of their age. It’s actually quite reasonable to sing into one’s NINETIES very beautifully! Often society puts pressure and expectations on people of all ages regarding what they “can” or “cannot” do. So, you have two options. You can listen to those pressures and stay silent. Or, you can dare to “Make A Joyful Noise!”. If you do, it will keep you forever YOUNG!🎤🙂
