This Navajo Code Talkers monument is located in Window Rock, Ariz. The monument pays tribute to the Navajo Code Talkers, a small band of warriors who created an unbreakable code from their Native language and changed the course of modern history.

Strength is born from resilience.

I always love photos that show the logistical side of war. Here, trucks from The Red Ball Express are loaded up with fuel in Normandy to be taken to forces advancing rapidly through France. Over the course of nearly three months, from August through November, an average of 5,000 tons of supplies were transported per day by 6,000 trucks. Drivers picked up supplies in Normandy and performed a high-speed, 700-mile-long round trip to the delivery point and then back to the start.

During her college career with Virginia from 1988 to 1992, Staley set the NCAA record for steals, the school record for points, and the ACC record for assists. She played professionally in the American Basketball League (ABL) during its three years of operation before being selected ninth overall by the Sting in the 1999 WNBA draft. As a member of the Sting and the Houston Comets, she received six consecutive WNBA All-Star selections from 2001 to her final season in 2006. Staley spent most of her WNBA career simultaneously serving as the head coach of the Temple Owls women's basketball team from 2000 to 2008, leading them to six NCAA tournaments, three regular-season conference championships, and four conference tournament titles.

'His-Horse-Is-Crazy'; c. 1840 – September 5, 1877)[3] was a Lakota war leader of the Oglala band in the 19th century. He took up arms against the United States federal government to fight against encroachment by White American settlers on Native American territory and to preserve the traditional way of life of the Lakota people. His participation in several famous battles of the Black Hills War on the northern Great Plains, among them the Fetterman Fight in 1866, in which he acted as a decoy, and the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876, in which he led a war party to victory, earned him great respect from both his enemies and his own people.

In September 1877, four months after surrendering to U.S. troops under General George Crook, Crazy Horse was fatally wounded by a bayonet-wielding military guard while allegedly[4][5] resisting imprisonment at Camp Robinson in present-day Nebraska. He was honored by the U.S. Postal Service in 1982 with a 13¢ Great Americans series postage stamp.

Crazy Horse, of the Oglala Lakota tribe, played an integral role in the Battle of Little Bighorn, also known as Custer’s Last Stand. His likeness is now carved into a Black Hills mountain at The Crazy Horse Memorial. The famous leader resisted having his photograph taken, often responding to picture requests with “would you imprison my shadow too?” The memorial sculptor created his likeness based on descriptions from those who knew him. The grand visage, cut into granite, intends to honor the Native American values that Crazy Horse fought for and defended...!

My face is shaped so that my aunties could give me big Iñuk kisses on my cheeks and my ancestors could find me in the great beyond. My eyes squint so that I could see across the blinding snow to find my way home. My skin changes from ivory to dirt brown just as my land changes throughout the seasons. My body is stocky and compact so I can preserve energy throughout the long cold winters. Colonial beauty standards COULD NEVER.

On the East Range at Fort Sill, around 160 marked graves rest in the historic Otipoby Comanche Cemetery. The cemetery overlooks the beautiful Cache Creek Valley from a lofty hill and the ancient Wichita Mountains are seen in the distance to the west.The name for the cemetery comes from the Otipoby family. In 1901, their allotment was located in this section. With the military expansion on the East Range in 1940, Fort Sill gained this area for that purpose.It was shared that the first burial at the cemetery was of a white man around 1886. Cowboys and horse traders once traveled about the old Kiowa, Comanche, and Apache Reservation. The well-known Comanche leader Nahwats' niece was Mrs. Maude Blevins who lived in Medicine Park, Oklahoma. Of the cowboy, Maude recalled that he died or was killed while trying to buy horses. She said that "they found his saddle on Beef Creek." No one knows how he died but the cowboy rests somewhere close to the cemetery's north fence.1888 marked the year where the earliest tombstone was noted at the cemetery. The first Comanche burial was in 1888. Moreover, it is thought that the first Comanche buried at the cemetery was either Nahwats' mother or grandmother. Nahwats as a churchman was recognized for initiating the first tribal burials at the site.The majority of the graves are Comanche. Although they include prominent Comanche Chiefs Horseback and Tabananika, other Comanche tribal leaders, and their family members, the unknown cowboy and a young white girl who died around 1900 are also interred at the Otipoby Comanche Cemetery.

Tsianina Redfeather. 1900. Tsianina was a Muscogee singer, performer, and Native American activist, born in Eufaula, Oklahoma, then within the Muscogee Nation. She was born to Cherokee and Creek parents and stood out from her 9 siblings musically. From 1908 she toured regularly with Charles Wakefield Cadman, a composer and pianist who gave lectures about Native American music that were accompanied by his compositions and her singing. He composed classically based works associated with the Indianist movement. They toured in the United States and Europe.

She collaborated with him and Nelle Richmond Eberhart on the libretto of the opera Shanewis (or "The Robin Woman," 1918), which was based on her semi-autobiographical stories and contemporary issues for Native Americans. It premiered at the Metropolitan Opera. Redfeather sang the title role when the opera was on tour, making her debut when the work was performed in Denver in 1924, and also performing in it in Los Angeles in 1926.

After her performing career, she worked as an activist on Indian education, co-founding the American Indian Education Foundation. She also supported Native American archeology and ethnology, serving on the Board of Managers for the School of American Research founded in Santa Fe by Alice Cunningham Fletcher
