Aba Diop & family are back at Bunna! This time as a duo with Jason Hosier. Their project blends West African sabar rhythms and vocals with jazzy, lyrical guitar melodies in an unexpected emulsion of polyrhythmic fusion.

Aba is a master percussionist, arranger and composer born in Senegal who has played on world stages, festivals and ceremonies with diverse groups and individuals including Yo Yo Ma, John Medeski and Billy Martin, Kehinde Wiley’s Black Rock, and many more.

He met Jason, a seasoned performer from New Jersey, in 2022 when they first bonded over a mutual love of West African music.

This unusual collaboration is a conversation between tradition and modernity, between east and west, both acoustic and electric, where the listener is invited into the adventure unfolding in the songs.

They are both part of a large collective of Senegalese musicians called Aba Diop and The Yermande Family. Goooooood stuff!!

The Ari Folman-Cohen Trio plays in the timeless tradition of Jazz Manouche with a unique and eclectic musical sensibility. The group consists of veterans of legendary gypsy jazz groups such as the Stephane Wrembel band, Gonzalo Bergara and has collectively shared the stage with such names as Angelo Debarre, Sam Bush, Al Dimeola and more. Always inventive, melodic and hard hitting the trio will take you on an unexpected journey from the first notes to the last cadence.

Shin played at Bunna on a regular basis pre-covid, bringing a variety of ensembles with him. We are happy to have him back for this one time engagement.
