🦷 "But it doesn’t hurt!" is a common thought, but did you know that cavities can develop without any pain? Tooth decay is often sneaky and silent. Contrary to popular belief, cavities don’t always come with visible holes or dark spots. This is why keeping up with your biannual dental checkups is essential—cavities can be quietly growing below the surface without you even knowing! Waiting for pain might mean it’s too late to address the issue.

I was fortunate to catch this patient’s upper premolar just in time! When decay is extensive but there's still healthy tooth structure remaining, I love using ceramic inlays for restoration (not to be confused with fillings!).

Here’s a quick breakdown:
✨ Fillings: One visit, tooth-colored, made of plastic, ideal for small cavities, budget-friendly.
✨ Inlays: Two visits, incredibly lifelike, made from durable ceramic, perfect for larger cavities, longer-lasting, and a bigger investment.

Have you ever noticed white spots on your teeth?

Maybe they look like true spots, or maybe they look more like splotchy clouds or a tie-dye appearance.

This might have happened due to:

🔹Buildup of plaque around the teeth over a long time, leading to early cavities that look chalky white
(Especially common after braces)
🔹Ingesting too much fluoride as a child when the teeth are developing
(If you live in certain geographic areas with extremely high levels of natural fluoride in the water)
🔹Some sort of disruption in the body while the teeth are developing
(Trauma to the mouth, high & sustained fever, periods of poor nutrition, etc.)

The good news is that we can treat it!
I use a system called Icon Resin Infiltration which means…
❕NO needles
❕NO drilling
❕NO damage to the tooth

As you can see from this photo, some spots respond better than others. I am always honest with my patients about what to expect and how much improvement I anticipate them seeing based on their specific situation.

His two front teeth (blue arrows) showed mild change- a little less bright white than before.

But his two teeth just next to those (purple arrows) showed almost 100% blending!
