NEW: Today, the UN Security Council sent a clear message to Hamas: Accept the ceasefire-hostage deal on the table.

Israel has already accepted this deal.

The fighting could stop today – and hostages could come home today – if Hamas agreed to the deal.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, had an incredibly moving visit to JFK International Airport – where 300 refugees had just arrived, full of hope about their new lives in the United States.

Today, I visited the Demilitarized Zone. It was a life-changing experience – and a reminder that as we link arms with allies in the fight for nonproliferation, human rights, and democracy, we must reaffirm that the way to achieve these ends is through diplomacy.

Today, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution to scale up humanitarian aid in Gaza.

This is a big deal, but we know that only progress on the ground can turn these words into action.

So the U.S. will continue to work with our partners to get more humanitarian aid to Palestinians in need.

To secure the release of all hostages being held by Hamas.

And to work towards a lasting peace.

Today, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution that calls for:

- The immediate and unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas and other groups.

- Humanitarian pauses to allow for full, rapid, safe, and unhindered humanitarian access to civilians in Gaza.

- Parties to the conflict to comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law.

We support many of the important provisions the Council adopted, but we are deeply disappointed that a few Council members are still unwilling to condemn Hamas – or affirm the right of all Member States to protect their citizens from terrorist attacks.

I am outraged and horrified by the appalling unprovoked, brutal attacks by Hamas terrorists against Israel. The United States stands firmly with the Government and people of Israel – and unequivocally condemns Hamas’ violence against civilians.

When I spoke today with Israeli officials, I extended the United States’ heartfelt condolences for the lives lost, and reaffirmed our ironclad support for Israel’s security and right to self-defense. My team and I remain in close contact with our Israeli counterparts.

Today, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield met with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to discuss the United States’ August presidency of the UN Security Council.

During our presidency, we will focus the Council’s attention on two pressing global challenges: food insecurity and attacks on human rights.

This is a time to celebrate the progress we have made in securing protections for the human rights of the LGBTQI+ community.

But it is also a time to recognize the many challenges we still face on the path to achieving full equality.

The United States reaffirms its unyielding commitment to defend the human rights of the LGBTQI+ community worldwide.

During , Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield visited Russ & Daughters Cafe – a fourth generation NYC appetizing establishment that was founded in 1914 by Joel Russ, a Jewish immigrant from Poland.

Today, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield took part in a signing ceremony for the Council of Europe’s Register of Damage, which will document the damages resulting from Russia's brutal war against Ukraine.

Russia's damages must be documented so that those responsible are held accountable.

An incredible visit to Thingvellir National Park, the birthplace of Icelandic democracy.

Iceland’s parliament, the Althingi, traces its roots to assemblies held here from 930.

My visit was a reminder of the strong ties that the 🇺🇸🇮🇸, as champions of democracy, share.
