Congratulations Jim Jarmusch, filmmaker, musician, writer, poet, and artist, on being awarded the French Ministry of Culture’s highest honor: the insignia of Commander of Arts and Letters!🏅

In a ceremony hosted at Villa Albertine’s New York headquarters, Cultural Counselor of France and Director of Villa Albertine Mohamed Bouabdallah recounted Jarmusch’s longstanding relationship with France, from his first visit in 1975 on a student grant, spending hours in the screening rooms of Paris’ La Cinémathèque française, to the numerous accolades he received at the Festival de Cannes – including the Palme d’Or in 1993 – over the course of his career.

We are so pleased that France could nurture your talent all those years ago. Thank you for inspiring a generation of French cinephiles and artists in return.

Congratulations to author Neige Sinno, whose work “Triste tigre” (Editions POL) was awarded the 2024 US Goncourt Prize! 📚

The prize was conferred yesterday afternoon in a ceremony held at Villa Albertine’s New York headquarters. Selected by a jury of students from 10 American universities and hosted by National Book Award shortlisted author David Diop, the jurors noted that “Triste tigre”, a vivid narrative of childhood trauma, was selected not for the pleasure of reading it, but for the challenges and questions that it confronts the reader with. Noted one juror, “‘Triste tigre’ made me question the world of literature, and investigate my own existence as a reader.”
