Egoic gender struggles demonstrate how life is about power until the understanding of unconditional love.
Shawn Elliott, Linda Larkin, Begonya Plaza Directed by Will Pomerantz Music by Albert Carbonell Produced by Jack Sharkey and Jim Weiner.
Begonya's full-length, three-character stage play "Teresa's Ecstasy" premiered at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York's Greenwich Village, on February 28, 2012, with Linda Larkin as Becky, Shawn Elliott (rip) as Andrés, and Begonya as Carlotta.
Her funny, romantic, and thought-provoking drama is loosely based on aspects of her life, and the importance for questioning the self that Saint Teresa of Avila inspired in her.
This piece of theatre is a powerful showcase for consummate actors, it takes place in Barcelona, spoken in English (though can be translated to Spanish) and it wrestles with themes of religion, science, love, truth, and the mysticism without the trappings, in the end it's about power.

“Teresa’s Ecstasy” is about a broken love relationship during a journey of the soul, exposing religious and cultural beliefs as tactical weapons of struggle, while the heart proves to have no boundaries with two women falling in love.

“Truth suffers, but never dies.” Santa Teresa de Avila
Beautiful memories working together with Shawn Elliott, from concept to realization. I started this play as a one woman piece, and after Shawn read it he recommended that I write it as a full length play. I returned from two weeks in Avila, Spain with a full length draft that Shawn encouraged and committed to being a part of. It was a blessed time for all. Thank you, Shawn. We love you.

begonyaplaza.com Although I draw from my own life experiences, this is not my personal story. This story is of the collective unconscious, searching for the female, intuitive, caring mother. "May your work be compelling and original. May it be profound, touching, contemplative, and unique. May it help us to reflect on the question of what it means to be human, and may that reflection be blessed with heart, sincerity, candor, and grace. May you overcome adversity, censorship, poverty and nihilism, as many of you will most certainly be obliged to do. May you be blessed with the talent and rigor to teach us about the beating of the human heart in all its complexity, and the humility and curiosity to make it your life's work. And may the best of you - for it will only be the best of you, and even then only in the rarest and briefest moments - succeed in framing that most basic of questions, "how do we live?" Godspeed."
