We are pleased to announce a one-night-only reading of 𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘗𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳, a new play with music written by Adam Chanler-Berat (CSC’s 𝘐 𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘎𝘦𝘵 𝘐𝘵 𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘞𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘦) with music and lyrics by Grace McLean (𝘐𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯). Directed by Tyler Thomas (𝘓𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘚𝘶𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘭), 𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘗𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳 will be held at CSC’s Lynn F. Angelson Theater (136 E 13th St, New York, NY 10003) on Monday December 9 at 7pm.⁣

⁣𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘗𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳 is the second installment of CSC’s Old Friends, New Classics series, following the successful sold-out presentation of 𝘌𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 with a book, music, and lyrics by Nick Blaemire (𝘚𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘋𝘰𝘨𝘴) and Tony Award nominee Ethan Slater (CSC’s 𝘈𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘴). The series offers company-affiliated artists an opportunity to present their latest material. Old Friends, New Classics is generously supported by Matt Benjamin and Yeeta Yeger.⁣

We are so excited to announce initial casting for 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, by Alice Childress (𝘛𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘥) and directed by Tony Award winner LaChanze (𝘛𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘥) in her New York directorial debut. ⁣

⁣The play will star Tramell Tillman (“Severance,” 𝘚𝘩𝘪𝘵. 𝘔𝘦𝘦𝘵. 𝘍𝘢𝘯.) and Olivia Washington (“I’m A Virgo,” 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘶𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘳). Previews will begin on March 6, 2025, with an opening night set for March 24, for a limited run through April 13, 2025 at CSC’s Lynn F. Angelson Theater.⁣

On June 3, 2024 at 7:00pm, we hosted Classic Stage Company and Manhattan Youth’s Off-Broadway Showcase! ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣The evening included staged excerpts from scenes from two great works of classical theatre, 𝘝𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘳, 𝘖𝘶𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯 (1640) by Ana Caro Mallén de Soto and 𝘔𝘢𝘤𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘩 ⁣
⁣(1606) by William Shakespeare. We were honored to celebrate the work of students from four Manhattan Youth program sites: Battery Park City School, NYC Charter School of the Arts, East Side Middle School, and West End Secondary School. This Spring, we explored plays that dealt with the theme of power. What is power? Who has it? Who doesn’t? Are there ways to acquire or lose power?⁣

⁣Theater is an important part of Manhattan Youth’s SONYC After-School Program, which serves 6000 students in 22 middle schools throughout New York City. Our programs are funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) as part of the Comprehensive After-School System of NYC. In 2014, Mayor De Blasio expanded DYCD funding to ensure that every middle school student in NYC has access to enriching programs after school, including sports, arts, literacy, STEM and leadership development.⁣
