Each year, a class of student artists in New York City and a class of student artists from Learning Through Art at Guggenheim Bilbao in Spain participate in a letter and image exchange. Unfortunately due to school changes following COVID-19 shutdowns, we were not able to have our normal correspondence during this school year, but we were elated to find that Guggenheim Bilbao was also able to continue their Learning Through Art program. As our LTA year comes to a close, we were thrilled to receive the pictures below from our sister program in Spain!

5th grade students at PS 28 channeled their feelings of isolation, sadness, and frustrations caused by the pandemic this year into crafting creative concepts for their very own fantasy spaces. Inspired by artists such as Marc Chagall and Shigetaka Kurita, students worked digitally this year to create online collages and explored various tools such as the virtual paintbrush, marker and insert image functions on the screen to design a space they’d love to escape to during this challenging time. Through integration of personal interests such as animals, travel, nature and more, student artists unveiled their personalities in these fantastical digital collages.
