We aim to provide a platform for collaboration between those who design, those who build, and those who use the city every day. By creating a space for dialogue, research, education, and tactical intervention, we experiment with various forms of urban practice. Our engagements are public a

Theories of Urban Practice Seminars will host Pau Faus, a visual artist and documentary filmmaker and NYC-based activist Rob Robinson. Their discussion will be around Pau Faus’ latest documentary Ada for Mayor about Barcelona’s activist Mayor Ada Colau’s one year, from her time spent organizing the anti-eviction fight in Barcelona to the day she is sworn-in as its Mayor. The importance of the work and both Pau and Rob’s conversation is related to Barcelona’s experience in providing a new citizen platform, a historic victory illustrative of the political changes taking place in Southern Europe. As both of the urban programs (MA TUP and MSc DUE) are focusing on various forms of activism and how these actions can be translated into democratic ways of representation, Barcelona’s example is very crucial to discuss particularly very relevant for the current political climate. https://www.facebook.com/events/1790220117968533/

A big thank you to our illustrious alumni, and everyone who came out. Great convo, fun and informative evening! Below is a retweet from TNS Prez Van Zandt.

Urban@Parsons on Twitter “Packed house for the DistUrbanist Discourse 3.0! We've got over 50 alum doing great work in the world! ”

Following the Disturbanist tradition, HUB.UP has been hard at work developing the third iteration in the Disturbanist Discourse event series!

The idea behind the event this time around is to invite alumni to come talk to current students and guests about both what they are working on now as well as their transition from the Urban graduate programs into their professional life. We want to see how they, as practitioners, position their practice within the urban problems that we as students talk in the classroom; as well as engage in a broader conversation about how to tackle those urban issues from a practical standpoint!

Please join us this Friday, November 4th from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at the Bark Room - Parsons Building (2 West 13th Street - Room M101)!

This year’s guest speakers are:
Aran Baker (Red-Hook Check-In).
Xavier Williams (Gov’s Office of Storm Recovery).
Masoom Moitra (Hester Street Collaborative).
Nadia Elokdah (in•site collaborative).
Alex Roesch (UHAB - Urban Homesteading Assistance Board).
Max Freedman (Theatre of the Oppressed NYC).

Speakers will present and then we will have space for a round table of Q&A’s! Don’t miss this event.
