American Youth Dance Theater

We are thrilled to announce that our director Ms Natalia Alonzo-Brillante, has been invited to join the ABT NTC Board of Examiners! The American Ballet Theater National Training Curriculum is taught in ballet schools throughout the world, including at our home studio AYDT. In this new role, Natalia will be visiting schools to observe and grade the annual ABT exam classes, and provide feedback for individual students and teachers. Ms Natalia is honored to assume this role and excited for the experience and knowledge she will gain, which will continue to enrich her work throughout the dance education community, and in her role as a teacher and director here at AYDT. Congratulations again!

AYDT is excited to announce our next Adult Dance Workshop in TAP led by AYDT faculty member Taytum Buford! All levels are welcome including beginners. The workshop consists of 6 weeks of classes that will take place on Mondays 7:30-8:30pm between April 8th to May 20th.

The price for the workshop is $210 total or $40 per single class basis.

To register, please fill out the Sign Up Genius link below with your first and last name along with your email. Upon registering, participants will receive an AYDT waiver that must be completed.

All invoices for participants will be emailed and must be paid 48 hours before their initial class. For cancellations, kindly give 24 hours notice for a refund. Regretfully, makeups will not be available for this workshop, so please let us know in advance if you cannot attend your class.

What to wear:

Leotard, tights, leggings, and or/athletic clothing.

We recommend tap shoes (available for purchase at our studio $55), however, participants can also wear socks and/or athletic sneakers that must be cleaned with a disinfectant wipe before entering the classroom.

On Saturday, April 6, we are holding a Serious Dancer Workshop with Amanda Till, PT, DPT, OCS ColumbiaDoctors Sports Therapy­­­­! In this important workshop, dancers will explore healthy stretching, how to increase flexibility, and how to return to dance from injury.

The workshop is from 1:00-2:30pm

Mandatory for all students enrolled in Saturday tech classes as this workshop will take place during a portion of your class time.

Open to levels:

- Ballet 4 and up

- Open level ballet 4 and up

- Broadway 3, 4

- Hip Hop 4 and up

- Contemporary 1

- Tap 3 and up

Parents are invited to attend, must sign up as well!

Items needed for the workshop are listed below:

- Notebook and pencil/pen

- Theraband

- Foam roller

- Pinky Ball or Lacrosse Ball

- Yoga mat

We have a very limited amount of foam rollers and yoga mats, so we highly encourage participants to bring all items needed for the workshop.

The workshop fee is $25 per participant, including parents.

AYDT presents our Black History Month Workshop as part of our AYDT Elevates program for Black History Month!
We are proud to welcome back our guest teacher Zakiya Harris to our school to teach African Dance Movement Saturday, February 3.

In this workshop, dancers will explore African dance movement. Movement will range from traditional to social West African dance styles. African dance styles vary across tribes and nations, but all are deeply rooted in ritual and history. For most tribes, dance is used for more than simple entertainment. Dance can represent prayer, emotional communication, rites of passage, and much more.

Workshop Schedule

BEG/INT CLASS, 11:45am - 1:00pm:

Mandatory for all students enrolled in tech 1
Open to students in grades 3 and up
INT/ADV CLASS, 1:00pm - 2:15pm:

Mandatory for all students enrolled in tech 2, 3
The workshop fee is $25.
