Brooklyn Ballet

We’re proud to announce that this years Brooklyn Ballet Incubator will be led by Choreographer Shannon Harkins as an immersive and interactive playground-style workshop with an emphasis on cross-disciplinary collaboration.

The 4-day workshop is an opportunity for Brooklyn Ballet and professional dancers to play, learn, collaborate, and grow through creative exploration, contact improvisation, repertoire, and partnering.

Ballet, modern, contemporary, and street dancers are encouraged to attend.

Juneteenth is a day that commemorates the end of slavery. On this day in 1865, the enslaved people of Galveston, Texas, learned that they were free — even though the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed by President Abraham Lincoln more than two years before. “Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory or an acceptance of the way things are. It’s a celebration of progress,” declares President Barack Obama. “It’s an affirmation that despite the most painful parts of our history, change is possible—and there is still so much work to do.”

We at Brooklyn Ballet want to reaffirm and rededicate ourselves to action. Happy Juneteenth, everyone!
