Relational Psychoanalysis: The Quest for Belonging and the
Co-creation of a Therapeutic ”Home”

The conference will be held in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, from June 20 - June 23, 2024.

Proposals due by October 13, 2023

At this international psychoanalytic conference, we will delve into the intricate web of human connections, examining the myriad ways in which the notion of "home" shapes our psyche, influences our relationships, and forms our identities. Our gathering aims to shed light on the profound impact that the quest for belonging exerts on individual and collective psyches, transcending cultural, geographical, and temporal boundaries.

IARPP Statement in Support of Ukraine

As members of the Board of the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (IARPP), we speak on behalf of our organization in saying that we decry the intensely aggressive, unwarranted invasion of Ukraine by Vladimir Putin and his regime. We are shocked and horrified by the wanton disregard for human life and the welfare of the Ukrainian populace that these hostilities demonstrate. The suffering that these actions have caused the Ukrainian people is utterly beyond the pale, and we call for a swift end to the military operations and any related oppressive efforts. It is unfathomable to us how the Russian government can justify the massive devastation and loss it has wrought and continues to wreak.

We join the International Association for Psychoanalytic Self Psychology, the International Psychoanalytic Association, the American Psychoanalytic Association, and a host of other psychoanalytic organizations in noting and protesting the traumatic impact this belligerence is having. We also acknowledge and protest the seriously oppressive and injurious treatment of those within Russia –including many of our fellow mental health practitioners–who abhor this violence and have called for its end.

Our hearts go out to the people of Ukraine and all others in the region whose psychological, physical, psychosocial, and spiritual well-being have been badly damaged if not destroyed by the Russian government’s actions. We stand with you!

We offer our ardent wishes for a rapid, peaceful end to these hostilities, and a prompt redressing of the extreme damage they’ve caused.

Susanna Federici, President of IARPP – The International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, and the IARPP Board of Directors

The International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis & Psychotherapy 03/25/2022

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
As you know, our colleagues in Ukraine are in dire straits. Nearly all have shifted to seeing their patients pro bono; many, perhaps most, have been forced to leave their homes and cities and have little money to subsist.

We have been fundraising on their behalf with the aim of giving financial support to as many therapists and their dependents as possible, whether or not the applicants are IARPP members. The funds we've raised are transferred directly to those requesting aid; there is no middleman; applicants receive the full amount we award (usually about $1000) and most within a matter of weeks if not days of the request. We are steadily distributing funding directly to our over 80 applicants, but the pile of applications is growing.
To date, we have raised and are distributing just over $90,000. That amount reflects the contributions of more than 450 donors - about half of whom are IARPP members. We are so grateful for and moved by this extraordinary show of support for the Ukrainian people. Tragically, though, Putin's continuing assault means that there is increasing and often dire need, and we have exhausted our funding. The need has been so overwhelming, in fact, that our initial funds were depleted in two days and so we had to temporarily close our application process.
Please help us continue to support our Ukrainian colleagues by giving as generously as you can, and perhaps even making a second donation if circumstances allow. If possible, we also hope that you will consider forwarding this request to anyone who might be interested in participating, as well as posting on your listservs, websites, or social media if you are comfortable doing so.
