Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun
Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun is a modern Orthodox synagogue on the UES, founded in 1872. Our Shabbat service begins at 9 am every Saturday.
Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun is a modern Orthodox synagogue located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side with a thriving community of over 3,000 members. We have been fostering a love of Hashem and an abiding commitment to halakah and mitzvot among our community since 1872. For more information you can go to our website: https://www.ckj.org/
Today, Rabbi Meyer Laniado joined Chief Rabbi Isaac Sacca from Buenos Aires at the Consulate General of Argentina in New York to mark the 30th anniversary of the AMIA terrorist attack. The ceremony honored the 85 individuals murdered and over 300 injured in this tragic event. Eighty-five candles were lit in memory of those who were tragically killed.
The rabbis stood in front of Marcos Acosta’s exhibit “Recovering Memory (Life Portraits),” which opened on June 6th. Commissioned by AMIA, this series of watercolors captures the lives of the victims through their last available photos, emphasizing their lives over their deaths. The exhibit is on display at the Argentinian Embassy in New York.
After the ceremony, Rabbi Laniado gave Chief Rabbi Sacca a tour of KJ, where they discussed the future of Jewish education and leadership.
We remember the victims and reaffirm our commitment to fighting antisemitism and promoting peace.
At KJ we believe in the importance of supporting our local kosher establishments. Rabbi Roy Feldman leads the charge by patronizing at 1232 Lexington, under supervision. Try out his go-to: the lean & green smoothie with peanut butter!
The Irving I. Stone Rabbinic Internship Program is an integral part of a RIETS education. Meet Gabe Silverman, Rabbinic Intern at Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun!
"I have tremendously enjoyed the opportunity to be the rabbinic intern at KJ this year. This position has given me the opportunity to experience life in the rabbinate, as well as to work on important professional skills such as public speaking and preparing shiurim. But most importantly, it has given me the privilege of being able to be marbitz Torah brabim, to teach Torah in the public sphere, and for that I am truly grateful."
Gabe is finishing his third year at RIETS. He was born and raised on the upper east side of Manhattan, attending Ramaz for fifteen years and then learning in Eretz Yisroel for a year before matriculating at Harvard University. After graduating with a degree in physics, he learned at Yeshivas Ner Yisrael in Baltimore before starting semicha at RIETS, where he has had the privilege of learning from an incredibly rich and diverse array of talmidei chochomim. Gabe enjoys exploring the outdoors through hiking or nature walks, and hockey is his favorite sport (although admittedly he is less of an avid fan than he was in his heyday).
