Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church
Bringing people into the transforming presence of Jesus Christ.
The mission of the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church is to bring people into the transforming presence of Jesus Christ through worship, teaching the Word, Christian nurture, and ministry in and to the world. As Christ’s ministers, our members are striving to build a community of God’s love, justice, and mercy, trusting God to lead us into faithfulness.
FIRESIDE JAZZ is back at MAPC. Join us on January 26!
Every year we gather for a summer party on our roof garden. Without fail, the weather and company are warm. Some faces are new and others haven’t missed it in years.
To those who came - thank you. To those who didn’t - see you next summer!
We love our people. Whether you have called MAPC home for 3 generations or just under 3 weeks, we are happy to have you in our church family.
Our new member reception brought these two groups together - new and not so new - for a time of fellowship and sharing. We are already looking forward to next year!
Today our congregation called the Rev. Dr. Aaron P. Janklow as the sixth Senior Pastor & Head of Staff of Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church. We are grateful to the pastor nominating committee for their faithful work. We look forward to sharing all that God is doing in and among us in this new chapter of our church’s life.
God’s mission at MAPC may begin with the city of New York, but it reaches far beyond it. We are blessed to be in partnership with churches across the world who bear witness to God’s love of humanity in all its diversity.
This Sunday we welcomed home Rev. Paula Cooper. Paula formerly served as our Phillip Talbot fellow and currently serves as a mission co-worker in Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, and Rwanda. In her ministry, Paula connects churches in the US with opportunities to empower ministers and their congregations with the resources they need to bring the gospel to their communities.

The MAPC youth spent last week at Montreat learning that through God they are more than enough. New songs were sung, new memories made, and we are already looking forward to next year!
As we look forward to celebrating Pentecost on Sunday, our deacons and elders have gathered for a 2 day retreat focused on exploring how we might be a missional, transformational church. This is exciting work and we hope to share some of it with you this Sunday at 10:30 am - in person or online at mapc.com
Due to the weather forecast and the difficulty we may encounter crossing Fifth Ave on a big parade day, we are moving the All-Church Picnic on Sunday to the Roof Garden, where there is shade and a greater chance for a breeze!
For the first time in years, we gathered to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus in the flesh. In many ways it feels like the church itself has been resurrected - and the irony is not lost on us!
Whether you joined in body or spirit, we are grateful to have worshipped with you. Easter marks the beginning of something new and we invite you to take the journey with us.
The sanctuary is all set for Easter service at 10:30 am.
Join us for a festival worship service followed by an Easter Egg hunt 🐰🥚🍭
Our youth took on the all important task of hiding Easter eggs for Sunday. Now let’s hope we can find them all!
Please join us for Easter worship on Sunday at 10:30 am - and stick around for a festive coffee hour and Easter egg hunt on the roof garden following the service.
Our Palm Sunday service started Holy Week at MAPC in a BIG way 🌴
The children led us into Jerusalem waving palms. We received a group of new members into the MAPC community. And we topped it all off with a new member brunch on the Roof Garden.

MAPC youth continued to lead the way in this week’s theme by assembling hygiene kits for the Samaritan’s closet. Who needs to lift weights when you can carry 50 bags full or toiletries?

In the bleak midwinter, joy can be elusive. We take faith in the belief that joy cannot be bought or ordered - it can only be received.

The baptism of Jesus represents the tangible solidarity offered to us in Christ’s ministry. It is also a reminder that our own baptism provides an ongoing connection to God’s presence.

Christmas may look different again this year, but we trust in a God whose love is not constrained by time or distance. So while we cannot meet in person, we will continue our practice of hearing the word, breaking bread, and enjoying fellowship together online. We send you our love and warmest Christmas wishes from the refuge of our sanctuary.
