Taking care of our most vulnerable and providing critical support, information and assistance during this heat wave is extremely important. Yesterday we welcomed NYC Department for the Aging Commissioner Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez and NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol along with SHOPP Pres/CEO Katherine Martinez who met with our older adult members to discuss the dangers of this extreme heat, the HEAP initiative and critical support available through cooling centers.

NORC Lafayette Estate trip to Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament. Our members enjoyed an afternoon watching the jousting competition and show while having a fantastic lunch.

SHOPP held its 1st Annual Field Day / BBQ to close out Older Americans Month last Friday at Soundview Park. Members had a wonderful day participating in various activities including volleyball, dominos, races and much more. In partnership with New York StateWide Senior Action Council and NYS Senior Medicare Patrol, SHOPP hosted the Senior Safety Summit last week which provided information on the various forms of fraud and abuse many older adults face and how to be aware and what to do in the event they experience it. Panelist included NYPD, SMP, & SHOPP Elder Justice. We were also joined by Ponce Bank and the Bronx District Attorney's Office.

Outreach and education is critical in ensuring our communities are informed and connected.
