The recent memorial for Robert Brustein, who died last year, heightens the memory of his influence on both PTP and its predecessor, New York Theatre Studio. Way back in the 1970's, Brustein told Richard Romagnoli that the work at Yale was inspired by "the nightmares and hoaxes by which we live."

An aesthetic was born that has continued to power the company ever since.

For the year to come....light, metaphorical and actual. And new creative horizons, collaborations, add your own wishes below. PTP Forum urges joy (remember that?)

11/29/2023

See above - we are now a FORUM! Please,
let loose. Why not change us.... all.
Sorry if this is elliptical!
This is now a place and space to muse on the theatre of today and tomorrow and tomorrow's tomorrow.

11/21/2023

WATCH THIS SPACE...! In the near future, we will be creating, both here and on our website (ptpnyc.org) places for discussion..possibly disputation, though not the current unfriendly kind. It's hard to bear the hand-wringing and the no end of blame in circulation.
What matters to you...what are you thinking/doing/believing and and and..?
Let's create our 'next' future.

"These are provocative and fascinating works by two of Britain’s leading playwrights for over the last five decades. Berkoff and Churchill are authors who do not get revived in New York as much as they should be considering their stature in World Theater."

S*x, Grift and Death: An Evening of Plays by Steven Berkoff and Caryl Churchill

"Hot Fudge and Here We Go flow seamlessly into each other, as if they were meant to be together. They feel tailor made for this precise moment in time, as America is clouded by ever-increasing dishonesty, led by the Big Lie, and the citizenry emerges from two years of a pandemic, reevaluating their lives and careers while dealing with so much death, including more than one million Covid-19 victims in this country alone."

"See it -- a challenging gay play about the contrast between 2 pandemics (AIDS & COVID). - sharply told from characters from both worlds......It is one of the best gay plays that I have seen in long time. It is important for every generation to hear these stories. The acting was great, and the lead actor was superb."

S*x, aging, work, illness, death. In this evening of shorts, Berkoff and Churchill lay bare the quintessential parts of life and remind us of just how messy, confusing, difficult, and awe-inducing these fundamental inevitabilities are. offoffonline

"Here We Go is linked together by three short sections that explore grief, death/afterlife and illness with Barlow playing the central character. In the first part, Here We Go, a group of mourners gather at a funeral. Cheryl Faraone’s direction keeps the pace moving as they sit, facing forward, and speak, their words often colliding. At random times, each comes forward to tell the audience how and when their death will occur. Luckily, we aren’t as prescient as these characters are."
