I would like to wish everyone a happy Juneteenth! Our office will be closed today and will reopen with normal operating hours tomorrow, June 20.
I would like to wish all of those celebrating a lovely Eid-Ul-Adha! May you have a blessed and healthy Feast of Sacrifice!
Happy Father’s Day! Today and every day, I would like to wish each and every father and father figure a wonderful Father’s Day. As a mother, I understand firsthand the incredible contributions and sacrifices fathers make for their families. Thank you for all that you do!

Only a week ago, another home in our community was burned down at the hands of squatters. The time for action is now. Yesterday, I introduced Res. 458 in support of Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton’s bill to make squatting a criminal offense in the third degree. Immediately after, I was joined by the cosponsors of Intro. 907 and Res. 458 on the steps of City Hall to call for our colleagues in City Council to help pass these crucial pieces of legislation. I will never stop fighting to keep our city safe and protect our hard-working families.
As a mother, I have always believed that libraries are a crucial element of our children’s education. Today, I joined my colleagues for story time in support of funding our libraries right outside city hall!
My office is delighted to be partnering with OATH to bring essential support services to our office on July 2! Get help with summons, fines, and more!
Since the idea of congestion pricing was first proposed, the people of South Brooklyn and other car-dependent areas of our city have vehemently opposed this fee on commuters. While areas in Staten Island and South Brooklyn have little access to public transportation, congestion pricing would be an added financial burden on hardworking families already struggling to commute for work. Just this month, I have received messages from constituents reporting more bus stops that have shut down in our community making it nearly impossible for older members of our community to get around.
I applaud Governor Hochul‘s decision to protect the hardworking New Yorkers who do not live in areas of our city with more robust public transit.
This month marks two years since the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade and stripped millions of Americans of their reproductive rights as states overturned laws protecting a woman’s right to choose. I am proud to be a New Yorker where we will never waver in our commitment to safeguarding women’s rights.
I was delighted to join my colleagues at City Hall last night to celebrate Pride Month! June is a celebration of not just how far LGBTQIA+ rights have progressed but a reminder of how much farther we have to go so that every New Yorker no matter who they love or how they identify is accepted for who they are.
Happy Pride Month! Every June, we honor and celebrate the immense history of the LGBTQIA+ community—and recognize the work we must still do to ensure that all New Yorkers, no matter who they love or how they identify, have the rights that they deserve.
I never thought I would be at another senior prom after I graduated! It was lovely joining FIAO for their senior prom today filled with music, joy and dancing. I loved being able to celebrate with all of you, and look forward to next year!
Today marks the third week of Council Member in Your Corner! Today we visited 67th St and Bay Parkway. It was lovely talking with so many of you about the issues that matter to you most. If you have any questions or concerns and missed Council Member In Your Corner, you can call our office during operating hours at 718-307-7151.
It is essential that our city supports and uplifts critical organizations that support our communities in times of need. I was honored to join friends and community leaders for the grand opening of the Brooklyn Chinese-American Association’s new Multi Human Services Complex. I look forward to working together to help every member of our district!
Only a few months after community leaders and I gathered outside of my office vowing to take action against squatting, another home in our community has burned down at the hands of squatters. According to police, a squatter burned down a home at 53rd St and 9th Avenue in Borough Park on the morning of Sunday, May 26. This is yet another home in our community that has been destroyed by squatters in less than a year. I am angered and heartbroken that this cycle continues with no end in sight. I urge my colleagues to support Intro. 907, which I introduced two weeks ago with Council Member Kevin Riley, and would require public reporting of squatting in our city. I further urge my colleagues to back the resolution I will bring to the floor next Thursday, June 6, in support of New York State Senator Scarcella-Spanton’s bill seeking to classify squatting as Third Degree Trespassing. The time for action is now.
It was wonderful joining IS228 for Career Day! When I was a child, I was unsure of what I wanted to pursue. But programs like Career Day showed me that anything is possible, as long as I continue to dream. It showed me that even an immigrant who was taking ESL courses while in college, could eventually become the first Chinese-American City Council Member from Brooklyn! I was delighted to talk about the work I do as a public servant, and the incredible opportunities our city provides.
Council Member in Your Corner continues this Friday! Join me and my office staff at 6720 Bay Parkway, at the corner of 67th St and Bay Parkway. I look forward to assisting members of our community however possible.
Today is Senior Health and Fitness Day! I am proud to represent a community that prioritizes and cares for our seniors however possible. As a member of New York City Council, I will never stop fighting to improve the quality of life for our seniors.
This Sunday, I am delighted to invite the entire community to the grand opening of our new district office located at 6514 20th Avenue! There’ll be food, music, and performances. Remember, this is not just my office—it belongs to our community.
Next week, my office will be holding Reduced Fare MetroCard registration on June 3rd from 10am to 12pm. See the flyer below for more information on if you qualify!
For too long, the number of red light cameras in our city has been insufficient. As a mother, it has been heartbreaking to hear how many children and caretakers have lost their lives to vehicular collisions in our city this year alone. Today, I was proud to join my colleagues in formally calling on the state legislature to expand the number of red light cameras in NYC from 500-600 cameras. Not only do red light cameras dramatically reduce hit-and-runs, they hold those who put our safe streets at risk accountable.
