This Transgender Day of Remembrance, acknowledges the harsh reality that the trans community continues to live in danger due to anti-trans violence, with Black trans women disproportionately impacted. According to the Human Rights Campaign, at least 26 transgender and gender non-conforming individuals were murdered in 2023, with 88% being people of color and 54% being Black transgender women. 's "Gender at Work" study finds that the majority of transgender and gender diverse professionals in the U.S. (60%) say that gender non-conforming employees experience negative stereotypes and social interactions in the workplace. Additionally, Coqual finds nearly half of transgender and gender diverse professionals in the U.S. are often told that their gender non-conformity is just a phase (47%) and more than half are misgendered (54%).

Veterans are nearly four times as likely as their non-veteran peers to say they’re evaluated on different criteria from others at their job level; and they are more than twice as likely to say they are evaluated more harshly than their peers.

As Black History Month is celebrated across the pond, Coqual acknowledges the history, culture, and contributions of Black individuals in the United Kingdom. 's recent report, "Being Black in the United Kingdom" finds that more than two in three Black professionals have faced racial prejudice at their current or former companies, significantly more than their White and Asian counterparts. Additionally, Black professionals are about twice as likely as their White or Asian colleagues to be mischaracterized as aggressive or angry.

Additionally, Coqual's most recent study, “Challenging Norms,” finds that the majority (60%) of transgender and gender-diverse professionals in the U.S. say that gender-nonconforming employees experience negative stereotypes and social interactions in the workplace, compared to only 39% of cisgender professionals.

As we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day and honor the culture, traditions, and contributions of Native American and Alaska Native communities, it’s important to recognize the inequities that currently exist. According to the Office of Minority Health, the median household income for American Indians and Alaska Natives is $49,906, significantly lower than the $71,664 for non-Hispanic White households. Additionally, only 32% of American Indians and Alaska Natives work in management and professional occupations, compared to almost 45% of Whites. This Indigenous Peoples’ Day let's commit to addressing these disparities and challenges to work towards a more equitable future for all.

Today, let’s celebrate the start of National Disability Employment Awareness Month by shining a light on the contributions of professionals with disabilities. 's research finds professionals with disabilities don’t always feel they are being evaluated fairly and say their colleagues assume they are less credentialed than they are. According to Coqual’s recent Equity report, 14% of professionals with disabilities say they are evaluated on different criteria than their peers compared to only 6% of professionals without disabilities and 21% of professionals with disabilities say they are evaluated more harshly than peers, compared to 11% of professionals without disabilities.
