We’re thrilled to announce that our Annual Gala raised nearly $250,000 to help transform India Home’s space into the South Asian Community Home (SACH)! This incredible facility will allow us to expand our life-affirming programs, creating a welcoming, culturally enriching space for South Asian and Indo-Caribbean elders.

Kamla Motihar’s journey from India to the U.S. is one of incredible strength and achievement. A founding member of Asian Indian Women in America, the first major Indian women’s organization in the U.S., Kamla has spent decades empowering women and building community. As the longtime Director of the Mellon Foundation’s library, her contributions have left a lasting impact. We are excited to celebrate her legacy of resilience and leadership!

Our members loved doing Warli painting, a traditional Indian folk art from Maharashtra. This ancient art form features geometric shapes, nature, and tribal life, highlighting the harmony between humans and nature.

Meet Adrienne Eadie Adams, the Speaker of the NYC Council and the first African American to hold the position! Elected in 2022, she leads the first women-majority Council in NYC history. As a champion of equity, she’s made strides in maternal health, affordable housing, police reform, and community safety. Under her leadership, the Council passed groundbreaking legislation, from addressing pay disparities to creating NY’s first Trauma Recovery Centers. A true advocate for her district and beyond, she’s driving change in education, healthcare, and housing.

DJ Rekha (born Rekha Malhotra) is a DJ, producer, curator, and educator. Their dynamic dub and hip-hop informed DJ sets often incorporate South Asian Diasporic dance music with ears to a global sound that resonates with dancefloors across the planet. They have shared the stage with many artists including AR Rahman, Yoko Ono, the Roots, M.I.A and have performed in festivals, clubs, and community spaces worldwide including the inaugural Women’s March, London Mela, 5X Fest, SXSW, Sundance.
They founded Basement Bhangra, in 1997, one of NYC’s longest-running club nights. Their debut album “DJ Rekha presents Basement Bhangra” (featuring a track with Wyclef Jean) won much critical acclaim and was nominated for best DJ album by the 2008 Plug Awards. They are the founder of Basement Bhangra™, Bollywood Disco, Lipstick Optional, and co-founder of Mutiny (with Vivek Bald) and Ronak (with Atif Ateeq) club nights.
