The musicians and staff of Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity invite you to experience Zimmermann's legendary Coffee House! Enjoy espresso, pastries, and beer while listening to the best of Bach as we kick off the 2023-2024 season, celebrating the 300th anniversary of JS Bach's fateful arrival in Leipzig where some of his best music was birthed. You'll hear excerpts from his famous Coffee Cantata, sacred and secular arias accompanied by historical instruments, all in a spectacular German Baroque coffeehouse aesthetic. Enjoy barista service and libations while showing your support for Bach Vespers by participating in a silent auction filled with special Bach merchandise, unique musical experiences, local culinary delights, and more! Announcing the 56th Season of Bach Vespers!

Becoming Bach: A Celebration of the 300th Anniversary of J.S. Bach's Arrival in Leipzig

Johann Sebastian Bach was 38 years old when he arrived in Leipzig, Germany in 1723 to start his new position as cantor at St. Thomas’s Church. The three years that followed his first three years in Leipzig were a time of intensive creative expression in which he composed many of his key cantata cycles for the liturgical calendar.

To celebrate the 300th anniversary of Bach’s arrival in Leipzig, the 56th Season of Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity marks the enormous promise of that moment with “Becoming Bach,” a season-long program that curates key works of that highly-influential period in Bach’s musical journey.

Tomorrow at 5:00 pm, Holy Trinity is excited to welcome the Susquahanna University Choir for "Sing Like it's 1723!"

Susquehanna University Choir, one of the 26 colleges and universities of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), has been a cherished commodity of the University for over 100 years. With a mission to share diverse choral music across a wide range of audiences, the celebrated Choir represents Susquehanna’s great musical heritage on annual tours in Pennsylvania and throughout the Eastern United States.

Admission is free, and doors open at 4:30.
