On March 23rd, Safe Passage Project's Managing Attorney Alexandra Rizio spoke outside of 's NYC office with one message: NYers need !

Here are a few of her remarks:

"The Access to Representation Act offers the chance for New York legal service providers to help more children and families by guaranteeing access to legal counsel in deportation proceedings. It’s a matter of due process. While the historic levels of legal and social services funding in the one-house budgets is remarkable, we need permanent solutions to ensure that these issues do not continue to impact the ability of children and families to build their lives here in New York."

As final budget negotiations happen, must prioritize .

The Access to Representation Act would make New York the first state to establish a right to counsel for people in immigration proceedings.

Las Patronas is a group of women in Mexico who, for 28 years, have provided food, water, and other assistance to Central American migrants traveling on the freight train known as “La Bestia.” Their name comes from their town, but for the migrants, who grab potentially life-saving food and water from women they will in all likelihood never see again, “patron saint”.

Join us in celebrating their efforts.

Happy International Women's Day!
