Labocine April 2024 Issue
April 2 - May 6 (Eclipse on April 8)

Our April 2024 Issue "Stories from the Eclipse" bookends the solar eclipse that is traversing Northern America on April 8. This program is a tribute to this otherworldly phenomenon and dance between the terrestrial and the celestial. Eclipses are not only moments where bodies are outlined and shaded but they reveal light piercing through obscured forms and rims. Ultimately the eclipse brings all living spectators watching from below from bacteria to humans. Eclipses are also moments of shadowing or being obscured by light.

Send us your Field Notes!
imaginesciencefilms.org//field-notes

In partnership with Labocine, we're launching the FIELD NOTES competition. We're looking for science-enriched film projects in all stages of the making : research, development, production, post-production + distribution.

We believe that ultimately every film is somewhat of a field note, living in limbo between completed and in-the-making.

Three projects in 3 different cycles will each receive a $1,000 cash prize from us - aka the Science New Wave Support Fund.

The 3 projects will also have an opportunity to present their work-in-progress at the annual Science New Wave Festival.

Learn more about submission guidelines by visiting Imagine Science's site.

The 17th Annual Science New Wave Festival will take place in October 2024 in New York. Dates will be announced in the Spring!

You can now submit your films via FilmFreeway!

Startle us, surprise us, amaze us! We always love films that defy categorization: show us fictional documentaries, scientific fact expressed through gripping stories, eye-grabbing data visualizations, thought-provoking experimental film, and innovative animation! And of course, we'll always welcome documentaries with a strong narrative thread, and science fiction with a sound scientific basis.

We accept submissions in shorts and features and anything in-between.

Film Submissions The boundaries between scientific data and cinema magic are dissolving. Similar to developing organisms, science films are emerging with new traits and new forms.
