She utilizes welded, laser-cut steel, mirror, and light to shape her concepts into climbable, enveloping environments and sacred spaces that invite both intellectual curiosity and visitor exploration. In this way, the artwork is not just an object to behold, but also a spacial, symbolic experience to be lived and learned from. As a self-taught sculpture artist, the power of her work lies in its ability to raise awareness of important ethical concerns without compromising beauty and aesthetics. Kate’s work and words have been published widely and seen in art museums from Seoul to Reno, in art fairs from Miami to the Hamptons, and in festivals from Amsterdam to Las Vegas, Santiago, New York City and in the creative vanguard of many epic fiery gatherings at Burning Man. Her illuminated, geometric, dream-like sculptures reach heights of 42 feet, and reference and weave together such diverse inspirational sources as Hindu creation myth, Native American art, Mayan architecture, dna strands, water, time, consciousness, computer circuitry, Buddhist symbolism, environmental sustainability, meditation, and self-empowerment. She creates with the belief that conscious creativity has a connective and awakening force. She shares the conviction that throughout human history, artistic expression and invention has been, and will continue to be, an indicator of an evolved society, showing an awareness of its own identity, belief systems, and a connection to both earth-bound and spiritual presence. In its best moments, art helps humanity understand itself. With this knowledge at the forefront of the mind, the process of creation becomes an act of service in connection to something larger than oneself. My artwork is an attempt to reframe reality as an essential question or theme, manifested as an enveloping experience of symbolic physical space. In this corporal way, the intention of the art is meant to transport, empower, and otherwise aid people in questioning established reality. My hope is that the art becomes a conduit to connect with themselves, with others, and offers an opportunity to discuss the larger issues we face as human beings shaping the future. Actively involved at The Nationals Arts Club, the Sculptor’s Guild, and the International Sculpture Center in New York, Kate is also an advisory board member of Burning Man Arts in San Francisco.
