What the Constitution Means to Me
Heidi Schreck's timely and galvanizing play, directed by Oliver Butler, is now on tour across the US, visiting more than 22 cities over 40 weeks. The play became a sensation off-Broadway last fall before transferring to Broadway this spring and receiving two Tony Award® nominations, two Drama Desk Award nominations, two Drama League Award nominations, an Outer Critic Circle Award nomination, and a Lucille Lortel Award nomination. It was named a Pulitzer Prize Finalist for Drama, received the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best American Play, and the Obie Award for Best New American Play.
This boundary-breaking play breathes new life into our Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of American women. At fifteen-years-old, Heidi Schreck earned her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the United States. In this hilarious, hopeful, and achingly human new play, she resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that dictated their rights and citizenship. See the play The New York Times calls “not just the best play on Broadway this season, but also the most important.”
