Tiempo: Borimix festival celebrates Boricua heritage; how one NY school supports its Latino students In this episode of Tiempo, Joe Torres discusses the Borimix festival as a way to celebrate Puerto Rican Heritage Month. New York, NY – The 17th annual BORIMIX returns this November, celebrating Puerto Rican Heritage Month with a month-long, citywide festival of Puerto Rican artists in theatre, dance, music and the visual arts. A collaboration of Teatro SEA, Teatro LATEA, The Clemente, and CENTRO (Hunter College’s Center for Puerto Rican Studies), BORIMIX makes Puerto Rican arts accessible to a multi-ethnic and multi-generational audience, promoting creative collaboration between Latinx artists. BORIMIX 2022 will also feature Venezuela as a guest country, part of its annual tradition of recognizing and honoring the mutual bonds and intersections across nations.

Join us on today, November 23rd , 2021 at 6 PM EST, for another BORIMIX Afternoon Tertulia - San Juan: A City on Both Sides of the Wall. Arleen Pabón Charneco, José Marull del Río, Silvia Álvarez Curbelo and Lillian Lara Fonseca will present the Puerto Rico State Historic Preservation Office dissemination efforts in the context of the 500 years of the founding of San Juan. They will discuss the nominations of Old San Juan and Puerta de Tierra to the National Register of Historic Places and of one of this sectors listed as National Historic Landmark. The specialists will also highlight PRSHPO recent publications, which include two books and a commemorative volume of journal Patrimonio. Undoubtedly, the presentation will address approaches of the historic islet -which is defined by both, the tourist-oriented Old San Juan and its surrounding working class community of Puerta de Tierra.
