The Episcopal Church

In The Episcopal Church, we strive to love our neighbors as ourselves and respect the dignity of every person.

Our liturgy retains ancient structure and traditions and is celebrated in many languages. Both men and women, including those who are married, are eligible for ordination as deacons, priests and bishops. We believe in amendment of life, the forgiveness of sin, and life everlasting. Lay people exercise a vital role in the governance and ministry of our church. Holy Communion may be received by all

Save the date for Presiding Bishop-elect Rowe’s installation service 07/22/2024

As announced at the close of the 81st General Convention, the installation of Presiding Bishop-elect Sean Rowe will be a simpler, scaled-down event this fall with a view toward reducing carbon footprint and increasing virtual engagement and participation.

The installation service will take place on Nov. 2 at the Chapel of Christ the Lord in The Episcopal Church Center in New York City with a prelude beginning at 10 a.m. ET and the service starting at 11 a.m. ET. There will be an extensive livestream production to support churchwide access and participation.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend virtually—and dioceses should begin thinking about organizing watch parties. The Episcopal Church Office of Communication will be supporting those efforts with customizable invitations and other assets, with more information available in the coming months.

Scaled-down installation planned for Presiding Bishop-elect Sean Rowe

“With gratitude to all involved, I have decided to begin this ministry in a new way,” [Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop-elect] Rowe said. “With a simple service at the Church Center that will include everyone via livestream, we can care for God’s creation by reducing our collective carbon footprint. I have great respect and admiration for the ministry of Washington National Cathedral. My seating will take place in the following months, and I am grateful to Dean Hollerith and the cathedral staff as we plan for that event.” Episcopal Diocese of Washington

Thursday, June 27, 2024 - Bishops United Against Gun Violence marched to Jefferson Square Park in Louisville, KY this morning to make a witness against gun violence. Youth from several dioceses spoke out about their fear and struggles with the issue, the leading cause of death in their age group.
