How to Build Trust at Work https://www.brandedu.com/build-trust-work/
"I think if there’s any advice I would offer, it will probably be two really important key things. One is, don’t ever burn any bridges. Sports is a small family, it’s a small group, I mean it’s amazing how small it is to me. Once you’re part of that sports family, you can kind of move around, you can find other opportunities within a team or within a league or within an organization. But most important, you gotta get that foot in the door. For example, I started my career in the NBA about 20 years ago and the relationships I have built then have helped me throughout my career. Relationships are everything in business, and it’s important to realize that from day one.
The second thing is you gotta enjoy the moment. You know, if you are working in sports, there are some amazing fringe benefits, and I’ve been lucky to witness quite a few of them first hand. Be it, you know, game seven of the Lakers’ versus the Kings, to winning a USL championship in our inaugural season, to seeing the first WNBA game and even getting to see women’s professional sports take flight. Through all of it, you’re working, but I think that it’s important to appreciate key moments like these. If you just want to be a fan and you want to sit on the sidelines and hang out and rub elbows with the athletes, then no offense, get another job. Go work for a sponsor or something else, because that’s not what you do when you work for sports or work for a team."
- Erika Bjork, Vice President of Marketing and Communications of Sacramento Republic FC
What is your reputation like?
Decide to get really, really skilled at something, and dedicate yourself to that! That's what Mike Stevens, the SVP & Chief Marketing Officer Company of the New York Football Giants says:
"You know, we don’t hire people because they’re fans. We hire people because they have experience in finance, or they have experience in legal matters, or they have experience in public relations or media sales. The fact that they’re a passionate fan helps, but the skills come first, and the fandom comes second. So my advice would be, get really, really good at a craft."
