It has been so hard to keep quiet about this one!!!.For the we're debuting THREE new colors of our house yarn, Tesserae! And believe me when I tell you the photo does not do them justice!
From left to right we have Dirty Martini, Nimue and Hadley. They'll be available in store beginning Friday and on the website beginning Monday where you can see much better photos.
Not only am I loving these colors on their own, you won't believe how well they play with existing range of Tesserae Colors!
You don't think we'd let the go by without bringing in something special and exclusive! These are perfect for when you feel like maybe you have to much yarn (is there such a thing?) but you still wanna get a little something during the crawl. .Introducing our new Tiny Tools and Stitch Markers (swipe to see) Sets! They are ever so useful and look how awesome our logo looks! did such a great job!
We've got limited quantities of both and they'll be available in store beginning on Friday and then on the website after the Yarn Crawl.
Not only do we have multiple in-person trunk shows for the NYC Yarn Crawl this weekend, we also have three mailed in shows that will be up for the entirety of the crawl!.We're so excited to have gorgeous yarn and fibers from , and Tributary Yarns from . Swipe to see some examples of the squishiness they've sent along. And another picture of what, unfortunately hasn't been mailed, but I couldn't resist!
We have lots of other fun stuff going on for the crawl - raffles, give aways, cookies - all the usual great things!
If you are coming to visit Woolyn on Sunday - be aware that once again the Atlantic Antic is scheduled for the same day. Subways will be running, of course, but busses will be detoured. Parking will be non-existent. Take advantage of the city's biggest street fair, and walk a few blocks after stopping by the shop. It is usually a great time!
We can’t wait to have these gorgeous skeins in the shop for the NYC yarn crawl this weekend! You may need to fight me for them! 😂😂😂
🍂 Fall Jewels 🍂
Headed to this week with these beauties!
Zoë from will be joining us during the NYC Yarn Crawl all the way from Montreal and bringing lots of their gorgeous yarns. The Crawl runs Friday, September 27th thru Sunday, September 29th and Zoë will be here all weekend long.
I first met Zoë several years ago when they stopped by the shop when they were in town and we struck up a conversation. From then on we've gotten to see each other from time to time at various yarn industry events so I was super glad when things aligned and we were able to have them come visit for a trunk show. I am sure you're going to all like their gorgeous yarns (and them!) as much as I do. Specializing in both yarns inspired by Victorian fantasy and by bright, modern shades that dazzle, Woolerton Estate Yarns are fun and fabulous!
We're so glad that Alisa from will be here with lots of her project bags in various styles and plenty of stitch marker sets. Her bags feature fun prints and as a long time yarn crafter, Alisa knows just what a project bag needs to make it useful. And the stitch markers are chosen to enhance, rather than interfere with your project! .Many of you will remember Alisa from her time at the shop - we were so sad when she made the move to Massachusetts and couldn't be happier she is making the pilgrimage home for the weekend to do the Yarn Crawl. So come by and say hi.
Alisa will be here every day of the crawl, but if you want a chance to catch up and chat with her, we suggest coming by on Friday or earlier on Sunday.
Hooray! The NYC Yarn Crawl starts ONE WEEK from today!
Will you be stopping by and supporting the NYC yarn shops? We hope so!
At Woolyn we will have in person trunk shows from yarns on Saturday and Sunday and with all three days!
We also have a plethora of other trunk shows and fun things going on. There will be yarn from and Tributary Yarns from . They’ll both be sending yarns we don’t normally stock in the shop! And for all you spinners and fiber lovers, we’ve got some beautiful fibers from - our first ever fiber-only trunk show!
And if that weren’t enough, there will be specials throughout the shop. There will be 10% off all yarn and fiber (except trunk show and Tesserae yarns) and we’ve got some fun exclusive goodies we will be debuting as well!
There will, of course, be the usual raffle signups and give aways. And we will have cookies from because it wouldn’t feel like a Crawl if we didn’t!
We’ll be sharing some more from the different trunk shows and goodies during the week so stay tuned!
The Yarn Crawl is Coming! The Yarn Crawl is Coming! - https://mailchi.mp/woolyn.com/yarncrawl2024
I was lucky enough to squeak in under the wire and see the exhibit at on the last day. It was a fascinating and inspiring exhibit for many reasons, not the least of which for this jacquard woven tapestry. Such an interesting way to meld different techniques and traditions into something new.
For any that missed the exhibit, I have the book at the shop and it’s really well done - feel free to come by and have a look.
We’re supposed to have some glorious early Fall weather all week long in Brooklyn this week! Perfect for making your way over to the shop and planning your next sweater (or other project)
What yarn project are you planning to start next? Let us know so we can all be inspired!
RESTOCK ALERT! Just in time for your new fall projects we’ve got a restock of bags and pouches - including the teeny mini pouch so many of you love. And check out the new pattern - Nolita! Were a big fan.
NEW YARN ALERT! The new yarns for fall have started to arrive and we couldn’t be happier. Introducing Riti from - a heavy worsted/light aran NONsuperwash merino. We’ve got a whole bunch of colors, both mill and hand dyed. It’s a great way to get the softness of merino without the environmental issues that can come with superwash.
On the website and in the store right now!
There is still some room in our September beginning classes. Long time knitter but befuddled by crochet? Still haven’t figured out how to cast on and work a purl stitch? Curious about weaving but don’t want to make a huge investment? These classes are for you!
Times don’t work for you? We can also do private or semi private classes.
Sign up on the website or stop by/call the shop to secure your spot!
Our menagerie is growing! Meet our two new sheep all the way from Galway! Both are from , and the one on the right was hand made by the shop owner!
That means it is time for a naming contest!! Winners will get bragging rights and a gift card to the shop.
So let’s hear your best ideas! Be sure to say which name is for which sheep.
Woolyn Is 8 Today!!! Happy Yarniversary To Us! - https://mailchi.mp/woolyn.com/eight
I may have bought a sheep while in Ireland. Or two!
The shop is back to regular hours on Tuesday at 11.
Stay tuned for a sheep reveal and a naming contents (or two).
Reminder that we’re still closed for our annual vacation until Tuesday, August 13th. You can still place orders, but they won’t ship until we get back. Also, please note that I’ll probably be slower responding to emails and messages.
I like to take the opportunity to travel and learn something new while we’re closed and this year was no exception. Right now I am in Dublin and I was lucky enough to spend a day learning how to make bobbin lace from a very accomplished teacher and lace designer, Ann Keller. She isn’t on IG but if you think you may be interested, reach out and I’ll put you in touch. The class was a wonderful all day experience in her home and Ann was so generous with her time and knowledge.
What is bobbin lace? Well, a video is worth a thousand words so go google it. 😂 it is something I’ve been wanting to learn for ages and while it is definitely slow compared to other yarn crafts, it is so much fun! These two pieces are the result of a full day class - the one on the left was where I learned the two first stitches, and the second piece I spent all afternoon on!
