Eleven teams advanced to the second round of Hen Hatch, UD’s premier startup funding competition. These semifinalists will compete on October 25 to find out which of the promising concepts will advance to the final round of Hen Hatch at the 2024 Blue Hen Innovation Fest on December 5.

Startup302 is a pitch competition focused on high-growth; early-stage startups led by founders from underrepresented ethnic backgrounds, LBGTQ+, and women! Startup302’s goals are to strengthen Delaware’s innovation ecosystem by improving access to funding and mentorship for underrepresented entrepreneurs while fostering diverse perspectives, promoting inclusive and equitable consideration, and attracting diverse communities of founders to the region.

Summer Founders is a 12-week pre-accelerator program where students are tasked to search for repeatable and scalable business models that are able to solve both commercial and social problems. Demo Day is the conclusion of Summer Founders, providing teams the opportunity to present their projects, demonstrate how the program has influenced their work, and connect with community members, peers, and mentors while sharing their summer progress on their venture.

Kunjapur's lab uses synthetic biology approaches to investigate how microbes can create and harness building blocks that do not commonly appear in nature to generate products that exhibit enhanced functionality.
Stephanie Raible is an assistant professor of social innovation and entrepreneurship at the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics’ Department of Business Administration and Horn Entrepreneurship at the University of Delaware. She also serves as UD’s faculty director of the Social Entrepreneurship Initiative, which provides students with curricular and co-curricular opportunities to explore the area of social entrepreneurship.
