University of Delaware Physical Therapist and clinical instructor Mike Eckrich explains the technique behind the two Olympic lifts - the sn**ch and the clean and jerk - as Liz Sabo, physical therapy student and CrossFitter, demonstrates.
The sn**ch is the more technically difficult maneuver because it requires greater mobility and precision. But the clean and jerk is where you’ll see the Olympians lift the heaviest weight.

Weightlifting is one of the oldest Olympic sports, but women only began competing on the Olympic level in 2000 at the Summer Games in Sydney, Australia. Two key lifts are on display during the Summer Games: the sn**ch and the clean and jerk.
University of Delaware Physical Therapy clinical instructor Mike Eckrich explains how athletes qualify to compete at the Olympics and how weight class plays a role in earning a spot on the team. Eckrich, who also coaches CrossFit at RIV Athletics: Home of CrossFit Riverfront, specializes in sports and orthopedics.

This year's Camp Dream. Speak. Live. is double the size of its inaugural summer at the University of Delaware, serving 17 children, mostly from the Delaware Valley. At the week-long summer camp that's returned to STAR Campus for a second year, children get to have dance parties, take part in improv, see a magic show, get their faces painted and hang out with Jungle John.
But underneath all the fun is an intensive therapeutic program where kids learn to be effective communicators, building their confidence, under the guidance of our Speech-Language Pathologists, faculty and graduate students. They learn how to use their voice and make eye contact to get their points across, but most of all, they learn that their stutter won't stop them from accomplishing their dreams.
Camp Dream. Speak. Live. was founded by Courtney Byrd at the Arthur M. Blank Center for Stuttering Education and Research at The University of Texas at Austin through generous philanthropic support in 2014.
Water polo is a combination of swimming, soccer and basketball - in the water. It's one of the oldest team sports in the Olympics, debuting at the Paris Games in 1900, and requires constant movement and a lot of coordination. The key: A player’s feet can never touch the bottom of the pool.
University of Delaware Physical Therapy's Donald Ford explains how shoulder injuries are common, as are hip and knee injuries as a result of the trademark "eggbeater" motion players use to stay in an upright position throughout the game.
University of Delaware's club water polo team practices in the UD Campus Recreation pool four times a week and welcomes athletes of any level who want to learn.

The University of Delaware Sailing Team takes in some breathtaking sunsets during their near-daily practices out of North East River Yacht Club - except for days when it's pouring rain. Sailing competitively is a sport of reading the wind and using your full body to zigzag through courses.
Karin Grävare Silbernagel, Professor & Associate Chair of University of Delaware Physical Therapy, grew up in a sailing family in Sweden. Her brothers were both in the 1984 Olympics and one is the current head coach of the Swedish Olympic sailing team. She explains how sailors prepare for the sport and need to be proficient in wind reading in any kind of weather.

As many as 2.2 million Americans live with lower limb loss. UD's College of Health Sciences and the College of Engineering have teamed up on interdisciplinary research that uses wearable technology to assess the performance of prosthetic leg usage in the clinic and the community to inform prescription, rehabilitation, and injury prevention and develop interventions that improve functional performance in prosthesis users.
The work is supported by the Maggie E. Neumann Health Sciences Research Fund. Primary investigator Jill Higginson, George W. Laird Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and co-investigator Elisa Arch, assistant professor of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, hope the results of this pilot study can lead to a clinical trial and commercialization avenues.
