Hoag Health

Recruited in 2022 from Baylor Scott & White Health in Dallas, renowned cancer researcher Dr. Carlos Becerra, Margaret Givan Larkin Endowed Chair in Developmental Cancer Therapeutics, has made the most of his first year at Hoag. Under his leadership, 67 new clinical trials opened, expanding patient access to the most promising new cancer therapies. While it takes approximately nine to 12 months to open a trial at an academic medical center, Dr. Becerra and his team have streamlined this process to roughly 90 days. Philanthropy supports a robust clinical research infrastructure at Hoag that helps make this timeline possible along with opportunities for Dr. Becerra and his team of investigators to work directly with sponsors to design studies and develop new drugs.

Using the MediView AR, a groundbreaking new technology that registers large amounts of complex patient imaging data into a three-dimensional space, the operator can visualize the patient’s internal organs, disease pathology, and interventional tools in real time, enabling interventional radiologists to perform ultrasound-guided procedures quicker, easier, safer, and more effectively than ever before.
