Speaking of amazing summer opportunities, peep these pics from a unique experience that our own C/CMSgt Kelly has just begun! (I see him in three pics!)
A stormy day here at encampment, so no "sightings" post today as we played sports and attended classes. Check out the Virginia Wing, Civil Air Patrol post from yesterday with all of the Blackhawk pics! Parents, check your emails for graduation/transport info! See you Sunday!!
Thursday's daily encampment NNCS cadet sightings!
Today was a ton of fun with amazing weather for awesome Blackhawk rides for all of encampment!! The air assault course was also traversed by some of our cadets too; it's another activity that they all do at some point during the week with their respective flights.
Parent warning: their clothes are gonna stink. ;)
NNCS cadet encampment sightings from Weds! A local cell tower was down so a bunch of us weren't able to connect; pardon the late post.
They are turning a corner as teams and individually. It's inspiring to see how far they've already come.
Some cadets got to visit the shooting range (2 hours in the AC! ;)) and today will be one of the encampment highlights for sure! Time for Blackhawk rides!!!
Here is your daily NNCS cadet encampment sightings! Make sure to check out the wing's Flickr link as well; they have PAs stationed with every flight! Today, some flights hit the rappel tower and they absolutely loved it.
They're getting into the thick of it now; they're starting to gel as teams little by little and to take care of each other. It's been a challenging few days, but NNCS cadets are hanging tough right alongside their flight members. Growth is happening both individually and as teams!
Here is the daily NNCS cadet sighting post! Things got hot and we got rain, but training is going very well and team growth is already forming.
Don't forget the Flickr link posted by Virginia Wing to be able to view each day by squadron. If you're not sure which squadron/flight your cadet is in, email Capt Sherrod.
NNCS Cadet Sightings! See yesterday's post for the Flickr link too. :)
Encampment starts today! Parents of students, keep an eye on the links provided below to see what goes on each day that your cadet is training!
Here we goooo!! Cadre has arrived and unpacked and are ready to serve VAWG encampment students with excellence!
Pics from the awards night on 6/25! We're on a two-week break due to the holiday and the Virginia Wing Encampment, Civil Air Patrol coming up this weekend. We'll see everyone again on 7/16!!
Last week was a really fun training night! We welcomed visitors, had engaging flight time activities, played "Tanks" for drill practice, listened to a Chief Speech and an Eaker Speech for promotions, and used compasses for our monthly emergency services lesson.
We're back tomorrow with more excellent training! Shout-out to our public affairs NCO, C/CMSgt Labine, for his awesome shots each week!
This past week's meeting was PT games and a fun aerospace lesson with Lt Col Kendall, retired F-16 pilot, who used the VR headset with the AE team to talk about dogfighting. We ended the night with a surprise going away party for the Hallare cadets who are moving to Colorado; they will be missed!
We're back with flight time, drill, and emergency services training this week.
Tuesday night included more quality training both indoors and out, and we accomplished the monthly character briefing as well.
We're back next week with our promotions and awards night.
Picture credit goes to our Cadet PA, C/CMSgt Labine.
This week's meeting was rainy, so we stayed indoors for the most part. Along with flight time, drill, and inspections, C/CMSgt Kelly and C/CMSgt Moreira provided an excellent emergency services class. The night finished with a leadership lesson from C/2dLt(s) Hallare and Sweatman about logical fallacies.
We're back this week with more excellent training.
Way to go, C/Col Sherrod!!
The spring/early summer time crunch has begun, so pardon our posting of two meetings in one. Here is our April awards night, and more shots of our PT and AE meeting.
The 2024 Spring Drill and Ceremonies School pictures have been uploaded to Flickr..check them out!!!
2024 APR - Newport News Comp. Sq. Drill & Ceremonies School Newport News Composite Squadron hosted a drill & ceremonies school led by Capt. Jimmy Taylor, Capt. Cari Sherrod, and Cadet Col. Rachel Sherrod, all from Newport News Comp. Sq.
Don't forget to stop by this weekend for a delicious breakfast that directly benefits local student aviators! (You can drive in too.) ;)
This week we flipped our schedule and had our "Fifth Tuesday Fun Night" a week early. The weather was absolutely perfect for Nerf Wars and the cadets had a blast. The number of Nerf darts on the premises was in the several thousand, and "line searches" were utilized to make sure we didn't leave any ammo behind. ;)
Teams, Last-Man-Standing, and Capture the Flag were just a few ways we let the cadets work through their personal goal of absolute annihilation via foam darts, and there was more than enough competition!
Click through for the action shots. We're back next week with our monthly promotions and awards ceremony.
This past Saturday was staff training for the newest incoming cadet staff members. They had classes on professionalism and command expectation, brushed up on how they teach drill so that everyone is doing it the same, and took time to compete in CAP Jeopardy with each other (ops against support) in an effort to brush up on misc. information. It was a very productive day and this staff is ready to serve their fellow cadets with excellence!
To keep with tradition, our new First Sergeant gets pinned by the outgoing First Sergeant and the Cadet Commander. Here's to another great term for NNCS!!
This weekend was the VA Wing Drill and Ceremonies School at Langley AFB. Here are some teaser pics through the eyes of a senior member while we wait for the PA team to finish editing their stockpile of over 1000 pics....
Last weekend, two of our cadets got to have an orientation ride with one of our pilots, 1st Lt Winger. The cadets always have a ton of fun, especially when the weather is perfect like it was!
To the untrained eye it may appear that there is nothing concrete going on, but nothing could be further from the truth.
Last night, the incoming staff shadowed the outgoing staff for their last night in their current positions. We also reconfigured the flights and moved everyone somewhere new to shake things up.
There were a lot of discussions and hands-on guidance, then some fun flight time and drill before they headed inside for an aerospace lesson.
Well done to the outgoing flight staff on such an excellent term, and welcome to the new staff members!
We welcomed seven visitors, and sent info to four new cadets on how to join us. There's always room for more!
This Tuesday we had the honor of hosting several distinguished visitors for our monthly promotions ceremony and the Spaatz presentation to C/Col Sherrod.
A huge thank you goes to Brigadier General Catherine Jumper for coming to present the Spaatz award, to our Wing Commander, Colonel Liz Sydow, CAP, MAR Asst. Chief of Staff Col Gould, MAR Command Chief CMSgt Soave, MAR Internal AE Capt Tamara Munger, VA Wing Command NCO SMSgt Griffin, Group 2 Commander Lt Col Borgerding, and USAF CAP Liaison Bruce Munger.
Previous Spaatzen were in attendance to welcome C/Col Sherrod (Spaatzen #2513) to the ranks: Lt Col Paul Willard, Spaatz #196, SM John Berry, Spaatz #211, and Colonel Liz Sydow, Spaatz #836.
We had Rocketry Awards, Cyber Patriot Awards, and promotions, and the cadets got to hear from Gen. Jumper with her thoughts on leadership and the benefits of CAP. It was a really great night!
Congratulations to all our promotees!!
