The day with the most light is the day we fight. On the first day of summer, the longest day of the year, we shine a light on Alzheimer's awareness and stand together in the fight against this disease.

We invite you to join us today, June 20, 2024, in wearing purple. From sunrise to sunset, we wear purple to honor and recognize those who face Alzheimer’s with strength, passion, and endurance.

On June 19th we celebrate Juneteenth, or Freedom Day. This holiday is known as the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. In 1865, just two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, Union soldiers went to Galveston, Texas to enforce the freeing of all remaining slaves. It is considered the longest running African American holiday and has been called America's second Independence Day.

Holly says, "I became a CNA not because I wanted to but had no choice at the time I needed a JOB. I also had no interest in nursing growing up. So, I always like to say healthcare chose me and I fully embraced it. I worked in LTC for 8 years at a little nursing home in Guthrie, OK and it was so hard to leave but I needed to broaden myself so assisted living then on to hospice and WOW talk about renewing your love for healthcare! 2020 whipped my t**h and hospice (Frontier to be exact) rejuvenated me and made me happy to wake up again for work. I get to take care of so many different people and they touch my soul every single time! I take pride in what I do for my 'family,' and they always return with so much love and gratefulness! Frontier not only is my job, but they are family they make me want to do my 150% every day. I have been in this field a very long time and I couldn't imagine doing anything else on this earth! I'm Holly and I PROUD TO BE A CNA!"

Today, during , we celebrate Armed Forces Day. On the third Saturday of May, we pay tribute to all six branches of the military, including the Army, Air Force, Space Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.

In an excerpt from the Presidential Proclamation of Feb. 27, 1950, Truman stated:

"Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 20, 1950, marks the first combined demonstration by America's defense team of its progress, under the National Security Act, toward the goal of readiness for any eventuality. It is the first parade of preparedness by the unified forces of our land, sea, and air defense."
