The DIOPA Veterans Ministry is a place of empowerment & healing. It is our will to address: spiritual, mental health, and basic needs EQUALLY for veterans.
The biggest drive behind starting this ministry is social justice! Female Veteran Moral Injury Ceremony An opportunity to be apart of the healing process for female veterans as they move from being a patient to having a prophetic voice.
Your Presence Is Requested! Female Veteran Healing Ceremony
June 1st 4pm-6pm (Virtual).
This event is led by The Rev Canon Toneh Smyth, LCSW, MSW, MHS of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania and Keitha R. Beamer, MSN, APRN, PMHCNS,BC; CARN-AP of the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz, VA Medical Center. The ceremony is apart of a 12 week moral injury program for female veterans. It provides them a space to celebrate their moral seriousness, share the truth of their military experience, and initiate them in a process of transformation we call "patient to prophet".
During the Ceremony, Veterans share their story of how they sustained moral injury during their time of service. This sharing process helps relieve the veterans of the moral burden many too often carry in isolation.

Healing Retreat for Female Veterans Healing Retreat for Female Veterans
Female Veteran Moral Injury Group Support Program: In addition to the Fri. May 6 Healing Retreat, we offer a female Veteran moral injury program for all those that have experienced moral pain while serving in the military.
An all-female moral injury group (MIG) was formed to provide female Veterans a safe space among other female Veterans to process and share their testimony of the root of their moral injury through military service. This program centers on the fact Veterans who bear moral injury are not sick with a disorder. They are responsible moral individuals carrying an unfair burden that will only be relieved when that burden is more equitably distributed among all who own some portion of responsibility for the harmful consequences of military service.
Facilitated by an Episcopal Diocese Chaplain and Corporal Michael J. Crescenz Veterans Affairs Medical Center mental health clinician, the Female Veteran MIG meets virtually for 90 minutes every week for 12 consecutive weeks.
The long-term goal is to integrate morality with mental health in order to arrive at moral health: mental well-being based on moral integrity.
If you are a female Veteran or know of a female Veteran who may have moral injury and may benefit from this group, email The Rev. Canon Toneh Smyth, Canon for Mission, at [email protected].

Our Story
The biggest drive behind this ministry is social justice! Veterans are trained/prepared to defend this country, but many are not prepared to cope with the impact it would have on their life once discharged. Through outreach, pastoral presence, and social service work; we work with veterans who are homeless and need help getting back on their feet, veterans that need help connecting with the community, veterans that need an advocate, and veterans with mental health/addiction issues. These are simple requests. We believe a ministry is ongoing not an act of service once or twice a year…. a ministry is a promise to serve our brothers and sisters in Christ for as long and as often as the need exists. This is our vision for a Veterans ministry.
