Army Veteran earns her college degree at 62 - VAntage Point At 61, Army Veteran Kathleen Cashaw wasn’t sure she could earn a college degree. VA’s Vocational Rehabilitation program “directed me to the positive."

Just keeping everyone informed during this time. There are a lot of benefits being offered through an increased support system, via Veterans Affairs and other community supporters.Facebook and the American Red Cross Military Veteran Caregiver Network have partnered up to help to reduce isolation and improve social connectivity, by donating over 7,400 portal video calling devices for veterans and their caregivers. Please read in depth. This could possibly assist those veterans who are qualified. If any VUB students have any questions or need any assistance in seeing if you qualify, please contact the VUB staff.

99-year-old WWII veteran walks at graduation 70 years after earning her degree Elizabeth Barker Johnson served in the US Army during World War II, then enrolled under the GI Bill at what is now Winston-Salem State University. She missed her commencement because she was working as a teacher, but 70 years later she was finally able to walk across the stage.

This is the first week of Summer and Fall Registration at UA-Pulaski Technical College - it's not to late to enroll - come by the Administration Building, Room 126 at the Main Campus (3000 West Scenic Drive in North Little Rock) for more information.

We will miss Navy Veteran Larry Akins as he leaves St. Francis House for a place of his own in the Little Rock area. He has accomplished a lot in his stay with us-his top two being able to stay off drugs and starting college! Way to go Mr. Akins! You have much to be proud of and we are proud of you!

Proud to say Issac is also a member of our VUB program! What an incredible talent! Way to go, Issac!

Yesterday and today the VUB program in conjunction with Student Support Services attended a CPR workshop which was taught by Metropolitan Emergency Services. Participants learned proper CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants. They also learned how to help someone who is choking.

Yesterday, we also drew for the winner of our recruitment drawing. For every new Veteran an existing student recruited for the program, they were entered for a gift bag. The winner was...Vincent Goudy! He won a bag of Clothing items and other things from our college book store! Congratulations, Vincent!

Yesterday, we did our drawing for the Christmas gift basket we put together for one lucky Veteran. Every time they came in they received an entry and two for recruiting a new veteran. The first winner decided to pay it forward so we drew a second time and the winner was....Jim Sykes! Congratulations, Jim! He won a nice bag of food and other goodies just in time for Christmas!

Veterans Upward Bound along with assistance from UAPTC’s Financial Aid office put on a Informative Financial Aid Workshop for our veterans who are attending College or are planning to enroll in college soon. Box lunches were provided to all participants and everyone left with some great tips on how to best obtain their college degree while being financially responsible.

Veterans Upward Bound along with our Veterans Service office had pizza, cookies, drinks for our Veterans today in honor of the upcoming Veterans Day! 🇺🇲

The UAPTC Trio Veterans Upward Bound Program is proud to announce that Luther Mitchell was selected as one of the five recipients of a National Association of Veterans Upward Bound Scholarship.
Mitchell graduated the Veterans Upward Bound program in August 2017. He is currently attending UAPTC pursuing his Associates Degree and is planning on transferring to UALR to complete his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance.
Congratulations to Luther and best of luck to him in his future endeavors!

We took some of our Veterans and went to the touring musical "Jersey Boys" tonight!

Today, we went to Murry's Dinner Playhouse with some of our Veterans for Lunch and to watch the play "The Foreigner". The food and show were excellent!

Hello! My name is Stephanie Goenner and I am the new Academic Coordinator for UAPTC's Veterans Upward Bound Program (VUB). I am excited to be a part of this great program. As a Veteran myself, I know how difficult it can be to overcome barriers that we regularly face and I'm here to help. If you or anyone you know might possibly qualify and benefit from our program, please give me a call at (501) 812-2802 or (501) 271-9075. You can also message this page if you have questions.

Qualifications for VUB

- Have received other than a dishonorable discharge
- Have to have served in the for at least 180 days
- first generation college student
- meets established low income guidelines
- does not already have a four year degree.

What we offer

- Academic refresher courses in a variety of subjects to better prepare Veterans for College
- personal tutoring
- free placement testing
- academic advising
- a $40 stipend monthly

Also, they do not need to go to UAPTC to utilize our program, it is available to all qualifying Veterans in Faulkner, Saline, and Pulaski counties.
