Salsa in the Park at the Academy of Music- https://mailchi.mp/northamptonartscouncil/endofsummer2024-1284960
đâĄď¸đđťAttention: Our concert this Saturday, September 7th with The Salsa Train Orquestra and DJ Bongohead will be moved indoors to The Academy of Music due to weather. The event is free to attend. Join us inside the theater for a night of New York Salsa and Latin Jazz!
The Salsa Train Orchestra was formed in Springfield, Massachusetts in 2016. The band was formed by Carlos Clinton (Keyboards/Band-Leader) who started playing music as a child in New York City. Carlosâs first instrument was the trombone. Soon after, he decided that he wanted to learn percussion. Carlos learned to play the Congas, Bongos, and other percussion instruments. Growing up in Brooklyn, New York in the 1960âs, Carlos listened to some of the greats of Salsa music including Willie Colon, Ray Barretto, LeBron Brothers, and the Fania All-Stars, as well as many other musicians from Puerto Rico and Cuba. Carlos believed the rhythm and instrumentation that these bands had was amazing! Carlos played in bands in New York, Puerto Rico, and in Western Massachusetts. The Salsa Train Orchestra specializes in New York style salsa and Latin Jazz music. All arrangements are written by well-known Trumpet Player and Musical Arranger, Tommy Villariny from Puerto Rico. Tommy is a graduate from the Berkeley School of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, and with his help, he has assisted the Salsa Train Orchestra find its identity as a band that plays New York Style Salsa and Latin Jazz for listeners and dancers alike that want to enjoy great music.

Cloudbelly is an award-winning indie-folk & chamber-pop band from Western MA with a sound that is at once intimate and cinematic.
The group is fronted by singer-songwriter Corey Laitman, a former member of the NYC antifolk scene and Signature Sounds record label, whose ethereal poeticisms are delivered in a spellbinding voice that tips its cap to Sufjan Stevens and Joni Mitchell in equal measure. Laitman is joined by guitarist and ambient sound sculptor Sam Perry (SVIP), bassist and backing vocalist (and killer-solo artist in her own right) Ciarra Fragale, and drummer, producer, and sound mangler Nate Mondschein (who often works under the moniker of Best Mann)
Cloudbellyâs music has been recognized by the Kerrville New Folk Competition, New Song at Citizen Vinyl, WBUR Tiny Desk Roundup, and Signature Sounds Record Label, and their most recent release i know i know i know was hailed by The Boston Globe as one of the best records of 2024. The band has played Green River Festival, Arcadia Folk Fest, and Meadowlark Festival, sharing the stage with Fleet Foxes, Bonny Light Horseman, Cake, Sean Rowe, Josh Ritter, and many others.

Tonight! Jake Manzi at Bands on Brewster Thursday, August 15th 6:00-8:00pm
Hang on and let go, Here She Comes is heading out. Ride with the fine melodies of this new Jake Manzi album. Seek the exuberance of his pop. Float in the shuffle and caress of thirteen dreamy tracks that jangle and twang against the shores of your heartland. Let yourself go there, beyond the cool sand, where tenderness can find you where itâs fun to pretend. Lose those heavy burdens. Be a fool, move your feet. Youâre welcome to all you find here, courtesy of Jake.
With a subtle touch for turning up pure song-stuff out of life, channeling the likes of Marshall Crenshaw and Tom Petty, of Lucinda Williams and Bruce Springsteen, of the Wallflowers and Keane, Manzi offers you his singular take on what contemporary pop-rock can be. Hear richly layered vocal, guitar, and keyboard harmonies impressed on thumping and elastic grooves from locked in drums and bass. Be transfixed by high-strung Gibson acoustics that weave enchanting moments with the mellotron and clavinet, with the farfisa, the organ, and twelve-string accompaniments.

King Radio as Camper Van Beethoven!
When King Radio started, our sole goal was to write 10 songs and get a show at the Baystate. Our first set was primarily what I would call novelty songs, with titles like "Michael Caine Will Do Anything For A Buck." Later, our songs become more musically complex and emotional. In that regard we've followed that same path as Camper Van Beethoven, from the ridiculous to the sublime and everything in between.

LookStock, a music festival that kicked off 34years ago, is making a grand return this year, now under the guise of Performance 34: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. â¨The Colony Motel as Galaxie 500 â¨
The Colony Motel is a rock band from Easthampton founded in 2019 by singer/songwriter Brian Brown and drummer Mark Schmittlein. Buoyed by the transcendent vocals of Kaci Ruh and Amy Wilkinson and the thundering bass of Shawn Gundersen, The Colony Motel wants to whisper to your inner werewolf. The follow-up to our first album Anywhere, Montana, currently known as The Incandescent Twin EP should be coming soon.
We chose Galaxie 500 because we admire their dreamy, jangly pop sensibilities and we think way more people should dig them.

The Friendship Band was formed in 2014 as a class at Whole Children, a program that serves people of all ages, and all abilities, with a focus on those who have disabilities. The original idea was to create an opportunity for folks who donât typically have a chance to âplay in the bandâ to get the experience of comradery and creativity that being in a musical group affords. 10 years on and The Friendship Band has delighted audiences throughout the valley with their original rock songs and infectiously positive stage show! The Friendship Band has shared the bill with some fantastic artists and groups including The Expandable Brass Band, EavesDrop, and Christa Joy and The HoneyBees. The Friendship Band is beyond thrilled to be playing as Joan Jett and The Blackhearts in Performance 34! We Love Rock and Roll, and with so many strong and dynamic women in our group, we also feel a connection, kinship and great admiration for the Female Mega-Icon that is Joan Jett!

This Thursday, August 8th at Bands on Brewster: Matt Hebert & Haunt
âDespite what Thomas Wolfe wrote, Matt Hebert is solid evidence that you can go home again. After a 15-year stay in Austin, Texas, Hebert returned to Western Massachusetts a few years ago and has been thriving. Hebert, of course, was the main man in Ware River Club, a popular Americana band that he formed in 1998. Since then, Hebert has recorded under several other names, including Haunt, and his new band, Hidden Skyline, which just released a new album, âCausewaysâ

Performance 34: Planes, Trains, & Automobiles

Pines Theater, Look Park, 300 N Main St, Florence, MA 01062
Matt Lorenzâs vision, manifest as The Suitcase Junket, developed in the tension between the grand and the solitary. Grand in its imagery, sound, and staging. Solitary in its thrift and self-reliance. What instruments he requires, Lorenz builds from scratch and salvage. What parts five players would perform, he performs alone. The spectacle of his one-man set bears constant comparison to legends of showmanship, brilliance, madness, and invention. While audiences are captivated by his solitary form and the show itself, Lorenz, who lives in Western Massachusetts, is most serious about the songs. He writes a world into existence, crowded with characters, narratives, voices, imagery, sounds as wide and varied as mountain throat singers and roadhouse juke boxes, plus newsreels of the planetâs destruction and salvage. With his 2020 release, The End is New, Lorenzâs grand vision for the song overrides the how of it. He is writing toward the next release. For Performance 34: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, heâll be performing as Journey. âWhen I realized that Journey fit into the theme of the night,â Lorenz wrote, âit felt like a no-brainer. Had to do it. Those choruses, those riffs. So fun

This Thursday 8/1 at Bands on Brewster: Ciarra Fragale! .mp3
Ciarra Fragale is an indie pop singer/songwriter, producer, and actor from NYâs Hudson Valley. By blending the nostalgic traditions of songwriting with unique new-wave sensibilities, she creates a refreshing sound all her own. In addition to making her own music, Ciarra has also composed many works for theater and film.
Fragaleâs newest self-titled LP is her best, most cohesive work to date. Ranging from Motown inspired heartbreak pop to modern and cerebral indie rock, Ciarra creates a distinct sonic world that allows her to display what makes her artistry so special. Pounding keys, angular guitars, and steady driving beats grace these buoyant and emotive tracks, with Ciarraâs one of a kind vocals gliding in and out of smooth and sweet harmonies showcasing her masterful musicianship and songwriting prowess. She currently resides in Western MA, and can most likely be found at the top of mountains or at your local thrift store.
