Congratulations to Firefighter Jaracz, who graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy today! After a strenuous 10 weeks of training, she is retuning to shift ready to serve the citizens of Northampton. Great work!
Early this morning, all units were dispatched for a reported structure fire on Federal Street. First arriving crews found heavy smoke coming from the eves of the home and located a basement fire. Crews performed an aggressive interior attack into the basement, quickly knocking down the fire. Additional crews ventilated, searched for extension of fire to other floors and Truck 1 was sent to the roof.
The fire was contained to the basement, with smoke damage throughout the home. One individual was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
The quick knockdown and containment by members of A Group saved the structure and prevented any possible extension to surrounding homes.
Thank you to all our mutual aid partners that responded to assist and to cover the city while we were committed to this scene.

We cover several miles of the river, in conjunction with other surrounding towns and the Environmental Police, and train to ensure familiarity with both the river and operation of our Rescue One boat.

Firefighter Mike Pawloski completed his final tour this past week, after dedicated service to the City of Northampton for 32 years. Mike has been a mentor to many firefighters over the years and has helped shape the department for the future. Mikes dedication, service and work ethic have been a model for those coming after him. He will be missed, but we hope he enjoys his well earned retirement.

Earlier this week we had the opportunity to work on some extrication training, utilizing the Jaws of Life, rescue struts and rescue airbags. These tools often aren’t used on a regular basis, so getting some hands on training with them is invaluable.
Today crews took advantage of the beautiful weather and an acquired structure to train on aerial ladder placement, bail outs and hose advancement/movement.
