Scenes from Day 5 at the Gathering. A New Orleans scavenger hunt made up most of our day followed by a worship service with others from Region 7 (northeast churches of the ELCA). There was another meaningful and inspiring Mass Gathering tonight and we managed not to miss any stops on the streetcar. We leave tomorrow. Hard to believe!

Scenes from Day 4 at the Gathering: our accompaniment project turned out to be a seminar with the World Council of Churches on Mental Health problems and solutions. Maybe we’ll be able to share some of the ideas that we brainstormed at Emmanuel in the coming months. We had some free time this afternoon and many naps we taken 😴. We had two streetcar fails going to and coming back from the Mass Gathering, but we still got where we needed to be. Today’s theme was: Created to Be Free—You are loved. ❤️

Scenes from Day 3 at the Gathering. We’re better at streetcars! Two successful rides today. At the Interactive Leaning center we did activities related to some of the many ministries the ELCA is connected to, played games, and two of us even rested in hammocks. At the Mass Gathering we heard some fantastic speakers talk about how we are “Created to be authentic.”

A New Orleans resident we met in a store thanked us for coming and helping in their city. She celebrated the good seeds of faith and service being planted in so many young people’s lives.

Scenes from day 2 at the Gathering. Lots of walking today. Some less than strategic streetcar riding too. We’re learning. We checked in for the Gathering and went to our first evening Mass Gathering, which was beautiful and inspiring (and loud).

Scenes from our first day in New Orleans. A 6:30 a.m. flight, a Lyft drive to our hotel, a bus tour of New Orleans, and a nice dinner at Zesty Creole. The Gathering officially starts tomorrow, but we’ve already started to meet other Lutherans from all over the country. After our 3:30 a.m. wake up we’re all ready for bed. More adventures tomorrow. Stay tuned!
