Similar to our body's lymphatic system, our brain has a glymphatic system that is only active during deep, restorative, REM Sleep. This allows us to clear our synapses of debris and allows for cognitive function, a better mood, less stress, and a decreased likelihood of developing Alzheimer's and dementia.
It may sound counterproductive, especially when we're fatigued from a poor night's sleep, but naps over 30 minutes long actually reduce your likelihood of feeling rested. When we take these long, mid-day naps, we fall too far into our sleep cycle and interrupt our circadian rhythm. This means it becomes harder to fall asleep at night, and get the quality sleep that we so badly need. Learn more about how poor sleep hygiene can negatively affect your health during your complimentary consultation with our team at The Sleep Apnea Center of Novi.
There is a huge correlation between sleep apnea, hypertension, and dementia. Treating your sleep apnea helps lower your blood pressure, which decreases your potential for developing dementia!
Lower Blood Pressure To Lower Risk Of Dementia | Bulletins | Dr. Weil A large global review offers the strongest evidence yet that lowering blood pressure can also decrease the risk of developing dementia later in life.

My friend, Dr Michael Breus, who I mentored with at UCLA in Dr Bill Dorfman's
LEAP Program, has some great "Sleep Tips." Don't forget though that you need
an open airway or none of these will work. Over 90% of people with a Sleep Apnea
and stop breathing at night have no idea they have this. I for one was one of those
individuals. Give us a call for a free sleep consult and we can see if an easy, at-home
sleep test is appropriate for you or request an appointment at [email protected]

My friend Dr Michael Breus had a recent article on Sleep and how it relates to cancer. Not getting 7-8 hours of quality sleep not only effects your immune system but is linked to some cancers. In addition, treatment to those cancers are less effective if you have an unknown sleep apnea.
Sleep is essential to the body's cellular health.
During sleep, the body goes to work to repair damaged cells and DNA, promote healthy new cell growth, and fortify and strengthen the immune system.💪
Cancer is a disease that involves out-of-control growth and replication of damaged abnormal cells.
So what is the connection between sleep and cancer? Find out more in my article here:https://bit.ly/3QQMjkD

According to the , Sudden drops in blood oxygen levels that occur during sleep apnea increase blood pressure and strain the cardiovascular system. Having obstructive sleep apnea increases your risk of high blood pressure (hypertension).
Obstructive sleep apnea might also increase your risk of recurrent heart attack, stroke and abnormal heartbeats, such as atrial fibrillation. If you have heart disease, multiple episodes of low blood oxygen (hypoxia or hypoxemia) can lead to sudden death from an irregular heartbeat.
Having difficulties remembering what you were doing or staying on task? Rule out sleep apnea today!
