September is National Su***de Prevention Month - a time to raise awareness and discuss this highly stigmatized topic. Su***de is the 2nd leading cause of death among people aged 10-14, the 3rd leading cause of death among those aged 15-24, and the 12th leading cause of death overall in the U.S.
There are several ways that we all can help prevent su***de, including...
๐ Changing the Conversation: It is important to have conversations about su***de and spread awareness of the realities of su***de. It is not an easy conversation, but spreading awareness can save Iives.
๐ Knowing the Risk Factors: Risk factors like history of trauma, major physical illnesses, financial loss, and more can make it more likely that someone will consider, attempt, or die by su***de.
๐ Knowing the Warning Signs: Visit https://buff.ly/3Rt9ZwF to read about the warning signs of su***de.
If you or a loved one is struggling with thoughts of su***de, call or text the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline at 988 to be connected to trained counselors who will listen, provide support, and connect to resources if needed.
