Mexicans celebrate death, we mock it, poke fun of it, write songs and poems to it. We grow up appreciating day of the death as a joyful colorful celebration when we get to remember our loved ones that have passed away.
I love all the traditions surrounding this. The food, the arts and crafts, and also the deep respect that it means to keep this traditions alive.
Sugar skulls are such an art, families pass this technique of creating them and decorating them all by hand. If you think of it each single one of them is unique, just like people.

Día de Mu***os has a very unique food element: Pan de Mu**to.
First registered back in 1907 and appeared in a recipe book in 1938.
But it’s origins can be tracked to pre Hispanic Mexico with a bread made of amaranth and corn decorated with a butterfly shape on top: Papalotlaxcalli
The Pan de mu**to has evolved with many colors and flavors but the original one has orange blossom, orange and anis.
Will you be having Pan de Mu**to today?

By dressing a skeleton In elegant dress, feathers and hat he transmits the message “sooner or later no matter your life status you end in the grave”

Where’s the food?
It’s behind all this gear and equipment used to create it.
Rarely we talk about everything that goes into taking that yummy image.
There’s an army of C-stands, soft boxes, reflectors, diffusers, strobes, cables, grip, tape, tripods and sometimes more without mentioning the camera and what goes along with that one. And we have not even mentioned the set or the actual food.
Definitely a lot goes into creating commercial photography !

Closing September “🇲🇽mes patrio” with the second image of the “milagritos” projects.
Image created to celebrate
Mixes my love for food, Mexican culture and tradition.
Most Mexican arts and crafts combine perfectly a mix of pagan and religion, passion and color.
This little tin figures called “milagritos” (little miracles) are pinned to the clothes of Saints in churches with the hope of asking for a miracle.
“Milagritos” used to be made by the person asking for the favor to show their devotion to a Saint.

All lighting done on camera, light painting and timing is everything. Working with strobes to get the bottle to show and long exposure to get those spirals around the bottle was so much fun!

Giving the photo all the fall vibes.
All the photos were shot with this goal in mind, I was mindful of leaving enough negative space so they could design around the main image.
Collaborating to push the photos into a marketing space and how they will work in design applications is my specialty. I’m fluent in design, marketing and print!
Let me help you take your photos further.
