“As leaders, we must excel at adapting and thinking on our feet, whether during a brisk hike, biking, rock climbing, or kayaking. These skills are essential for acting swiftly and confidently in any situation. The learning never stops. Our top priority is always keeping our community safe and out of harm's way.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Kayak Chicago for generously providing their space and equipment, enabling us to practice kayak rescue scenarios. Their immediate support bridged a crucial gap, making kayaking and training accessible to our leaders.
A special recognition goes to Chompers World for not only coordinating this event but also imparting invaluable knowledge on kayak rescue. With 14 years of experience, Vicky demonstrated her skills firsthand, enriching our leaders' understanding. Thank you, Vicky, for your outstanding leadership. Latino Outdoors and our surrounding communities are truly fortunate to have you.
Lastly, we commend our courageous leaders who embraced new skills for the greater good of their community. Your resilience shone through, even as you faced the challenges of Lake Michigan's cold waters and maneuvered the 16-ft kayaks with roaring waves.
Together, as a community, we remain dedicated to everyone's safety, including our precious Mother Earth, and continue our unwavering pursuit of a better life for nuestra comunidad!"

Whether it's your first or hundredth time out on the water, it has a way of teaching us so much. After their rafting experience, this group sat down to talk about what they learned. Here's what they shared:
"You have to have perseverance or you won't get to your destination."
"Sometimes the water takes you a way you didn't want to go but by working hard you can change your direction."
"You can't help others if you're drowning."
"You have to try new things. Step out of your comfort zone."
Gracias MANA de Albuquerque, Continental Divide Trail Coalition, and New Mexico River Adventures for hosting such a wonderful adventure!
Hot on the heels of the recent expansion of San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and Berryessa Snow Mountains National Monument, Latino Outdoors was proud to collaborate with other members of the The Protect California Deserts Coalition on an epic advocacy road trip to the proposed Chuckwalla National Monument.
This sunset tour was a creative combination of desert exploration, drag performances, advocacy, and comunidad. After picking up attendees and drag performers, we caravanned to three key points within the proposed monument. At each stop, local drag performers, including Kit Tapata in a show-stopping Chuckwalla lizard costume, helped us celebrate Orgullosamente Outdoors while advocating for more equitable access to nature for local communities and the safeguarding of critical wildlife habitat.
Take action today: sign the petition and join us as we call on President Biden to use the Antiquities Act to designate Chuckwalla National Monument in the California Desert and protect lands adjacent to Joshua Tree National Park. https://bit.ly/yocuentochuckwalla

LO Ventura’s Orgullosamente Outdoors event at Satwiwa & Boney Mountain State Wilderness included a hike and opportunity to learn about Chumash culture.
It was most people’s first time at this secluded site where they meandered along the shaded part of the trail due to high temperatures. The trail is on ancestral Chumash land so the group stopped at the visitors center to learn about the Chumash people and the land they were visiting that day.
