💡SMARTBOMB x SFJAZZ Recap #4 Art Mart (Performers)

On July 6th, SMARTBOMB activated the entire SFJAZZ Center for a community experience, including a special art market which hosted various local beloved vendors.

The 2nd floor lobby was transformed into a warm & vibrant consortium of cultural exchange. Rare records & cassettes were discovered as doorways to new underground movements of local music. Radical & forward thinking independently published literature sprawled across tables for eager minds to soak in. Hallways were lined with racks of curated vintage clothing hand selected for the event and priced under $20. DIY made clothing, photo & art prints, zines, and more offered showcased the diverse and expansive nature of a bay area creative. Specially made healing blends of herbs, teas, & tinctures were enjoyed by the folks and families having fun.
We are honored to have brought together such warm-hearted legends/luminaries/collectives/spaces in Oakland and the bay to offer their worlds in a shared environment. DEEPEST GRATITUDE to our vendors:

💡SMARTBOMB x SFJAZZ Recap #3: Art Mart (Performers)

On July 6th, SMARTBOMB activated the entire SFJAZZ Center for a community experience including a special art market with local beloved vendors and lineup of beautiful music.

Melanie Marie set the initial tuning vibration, dropping ear worms & custom remixes on SP404 to start the day for the marketplace.

Heru .eru teleported the 2nd floor lobby back to a classic SMARTBOMB beat party, swaying bodies and nodding heads of intrigued and inspiring listeners in unison.

Earl Biggers and Mustafa from TRIBEJAZZ put on a clinic in vinyl party rocking, exhibiting the skills & taste that have made TRIBEJAZZ a premier party to discover new sound & movement.

Jillesque made a long anticipated return to SMARTBOMB universe, along with fellow artist & bandmate Eva Ave ._.noelle to play a live set of new material, giving a glimpse of the beautiful harmonies and tones to come from a new Jillesque project.

To close the art market, 💡💣legend Three6Sashia blessed the dancefloor lovers and the beatheads in the cuts alike, weaving through vinyl selections and live beats on the SP-404. "This one of the only spaces I can still play beats like this", Sasha stated during their set... "This was the first place I could ever play beats like this". 💛

The entire center was buzzing with love and the community market was a wo derful place where new and old friends met to absorb some great energy, learn some lasting information, and make some forever connections under the brilliant tapestry of sounds set by these amazing performers.

💡SMARTBOMB x SFJAZZ Recap #2: JHL

On July 6th, SMARTBOMB activated the entire SFJAZZ Center for a community experience featuring a brilliant array of live performances in the famed Joe Henderson Lab.

Maylee Todd closed the Lab out in truly unique and incomparable fashion, floating on eclectic waves of sound emitting infectious energy & charisma with one of the funnest set closers we have seen in some time.

Musele Project transported all present to a new space & time. It felt as if the ensemble, the audience, the birds flying by outside.. all shared in a state of oneness as the vibrations of the entire day began to truly form and converge.

Zachary James Watkins made his debut solo performance at SFJAZZ a memorable one, shaping frequency, vibration & tone to masterfully weave a blanket of sound across the enter center, from the JHL to the throbbing bass speakers in the Miner viewing area.

To open the Lab, we were blessed with a rare and special moment, with Diego Gaeta performing & premiering the new solo piano compositions of legendary beat music artist Dakim . Diego fittingly closed the set with a beloved Monk Tune, "Well You Need'nt".

Live visuals were also projected across the room by Erik Wilson and sent to the Miner Auditorum for viewing and listening.

We thank all performers and all community in attendance who shared such a special moment of love & music with us.

💡Today is the day! Here is some useful information for SMARTBOMB x SFJAZZ today at the SFJAZZ Center.

- Doors Open at 4pm (early arrival suggested for day of tickets) and the first activation open will be the Community Mart in the upstairs lobby with live music & DJs

- B-Side will be open for food and beverages during the event, along with other local options to grab a bite near the center.

- Joe Henderson Lab live sets will begin at 5:30pm

- The Miner Auditorium opens early with featured visuals and video install. Standing On The Corner set begins shortly after 8pm.

💡On Wednesday June 26th SMARTBOMB closes out this season of Selector Series with Bar Shiru featuring a special night of records curated by a beloved, talented local being, Joshua Pausanos aka Piscespace

Joshua Pausanos aka Piscespace is a visual storyteller, event organizer and DJ based in Oakland. His passion as an artist is inspired by the collaborative spirit of community and the belief that inclusion is the best ingredient for truthful imagery and experiences. With this purpose, he works as a cinematographer on narrative films, commercials, documentaries and has collaborated on music videos for artists such as Ovrkast., Elujay, Pink Siifu, and La Dona to name a few, always in search the heartbeat and soul of each project. Through his family he has ventured into collecting records and works to honor his grandma, ancestors, and community around him by sharing healing sounds and creating spaces to enjoy, uplift and reflect each other's light. Joshua co-founded Soul Light Collective, with close friend and collaborator Samplelov, with this intention in mind. This collective serves as a beacon of hope and connection through curating transformative events blending art, music and culture with the spirit that a better world is possible. Whether working in the film, music or event spaces Joshua's purpose remains to serve as part of the connective tissue that bonds the people of the Bay Area, and beyond."

Eternal Now is a book shop, record shop, ar(k)chive, and communal space for the arts curated & directed by cofounder Will Bundy located in Oakland, California.

The shop sells physical media and artwork, and hosts concerts, conversations, visual art events and other happenings — both inside the shop and out. Eternal Now also houses a growing archive of art publications, music and ephemera available as a resource to our collaborators.

Over its first year-plus, the space has hosted performances and collaborations with artists like Lonnie Holley, Kehlani, Colloboh, Kesh, Tracy Ren, Nkiruka Oparah, Ovrkast, Zekarias Thompson, Matt Robidoux and many more.

The unique space was deisgned and built out in collaboration ny Will Bundy & Ali Madigan.

Irrelevant Press is an independent, DIY publishing press operating out of both Oakland, CA and Brooklyn, NY. Founded in 2014 - they began with the simple goal to make zines together and foster creative friendship in the community. Since then, they have produced numerous publications/zines as well as providing free+accessible printing services. Currently, they are offering complimentary printing services for artists/educators/organizers advocating for a Free Palestine. Lower Grand Radio is a community focused radio station located in Oakland, CA. Founded in 2015 by Alex Shen, their goal is to make radio accessible and provide space for the community to gather, grow, and connect with one another.

NO BIAS .o.b.i.a.s is an independent record label, media project, and nightlife series started in the Bay Area in 2020. Their goal is to uplift the Bay Area’s underground sound.

At the Community Market - NO BIAS will be selling records, tapes, and stickers from local artists. Lower Grand Radio will be selling records, tapes, LGR clothing, and rare/limited artwork from local artists

Los Angeles’ Jillesque is a producer and songwriter from the tape label Condina Records (est. 2017) known for her vocal rendition of “Be Your Girl” with Flat Stanley, but also for her riveting performances on stage. From performing original productions with a full band, to holding down raw beats on the SP 404, Jillesque’s tastes and musical range create a sprawling landscape of blended genres. Her music is best described as lush and soulful with a healthy amount of groove. Her name precedes her, being recognized by the underground beat scene as one of the upcoming artists of the new generation and receiving praises and support from notable artists throughout the years. She has played at Tender Zone x Obey’s 2019 “Family Jams” Festival, Smartbomb Oakland, Low End Theory’s revival “Scenario”, Gaslamp Killer’s Airplane Mode, Beat Cinema, Coachella’s Gobi Stage in 2022, support for Ave.Noelle and Astyn Turr, as well as Tommaso Cappellato’s experimentally focused residency “Broadcast.”

Formed as part of a monthly residency at Phonobar SF in 2019, Tribe Jazz is San Francisco selector/DJ duo, mustafa and Earl Biggers. Raised on golden age hip hop, 90s house, and the aesthetics of jazz & funk samples, they eventually gravitated towards the more contemplative and spiritual dimensions of jazz. Sonically, their sensibilities converge in the exploration and synthesis between Mind, Body, and Spirit; while culturally, they hope to inspire community in service of the message in the music and the wisdom that binds all living things, with Love as the path and Peace as the purpose. You can hear Tribe Jazz on HydeFM Radio every last Monday from 7-9pm and online at tribejazz.net.

Three6sashia is Oakland, Ca based eclectic vinyl DJ whose sets guide us through portals of groove.  Having worked at 3 Record stores since 17. Sasha started off on turntables with a crate digging/beat making approach. The selections compliment the foundations of this journey. Playing lots of Soul, Jazz, International and Experimental cuts. “All my sets have one goal, for everyone in the audience to discover their new favorite song.” Immortalized by memory.  

Three6sashia has been a SMARTBOMB mainstay for years providing our universe with some of most memorable sets in our history. You can find Sasha as a beloved DJ ingrained within local bay area community hubs such as LOWER GRAND RADIO, UNITY PRESS/THERE, ETERNAL NOW and more. Sasha is also the curator of DEEP LISTENING EXPERIENCE, and co-curator of RECOMMENDED RECORDS, platforms dedicated to the discovery of rare and unheard music.

💡SMARTBOMB returns to this Wednesday 5.29 for our collaborative Selector Series, featuring vinyl records curated by Musa Bey

An Oakland Native that has worn many hats, Musa Bey has stepped into a combination of roles all rooted in music, varying in form and allowing for adaption. He’s produced for Oakland rappers and established himself as a community based DJ by supporting initiatives such as the Black Cultural Zone (2019-2021) and holding residency at Kinfolx (2023). He has gone on to develop curating skills that have led to collaborating with brands to contribute his creative eyes and ears, overall thoughtfulness, and keen attention to creative detail. He has lended his expertise to the likes of brands such as ‘s evolving “We’ve Got The Jazz” Jazz playlist as well.

He is currently focused on developing the creative vision for , a simple luxury incense paper brand, as well as being a contributing event series member with - a quarterly event series for producers & DJ’s in Oakland.

When he’s not working everywhere all at once, Musa is usually adding to his personal collection of vinyl. Musa has an ear opening palette of sounds from across the pond to the rest of globe. This Selector Series night is a perfect opportunity to get to know Musa through the records he’s thoughtfully picked out.
