The 24-25 school year kicks off in 2 short weeks. As an Agricultural teacher and FFA Advisor it is a busy time of year. Attached you will find some items that will help add to the student’s classroom and FFA experiences this upcoming year. Thank-you for all of your support of LWHS, myself and our FFA program.

“Here are 6 reasons to enroll them in an agricultural education class and FFA.

1. Cattle are not required, and neither are boots.

2. All students (city, rural, shy, outgoing, athletic and musical) are encouraged to join.

3. There is not winning or losing record, but they are still a part of a team. FFA has more than 30 competitive contests called Career Development Events. They include environmental and natural resources, horticulture, food science, ag communications and farm business management. CDEs allow students hands-on opportunities to test the skills they learn in a classroom in real-world events. There are at least a couple of CDEs that will fuel their passion.

4. FFA students learn by doing. Supervised Agricultural Experiences, SAEs, provide hands-on learning that teaches through entrepreneurship, internship or job placement; research or experimentation; and exploring new career opportunities. Your child will learn time management, develop a work ethic, how to set goals, and important life skills.

5. FFA has hundreds of scholarship & grant opportunities for students. By simply being a member, they are eligible to apply! Scholarships are also awarded through placing in State, as well as National Contests.

6. FFA is raising tomorrow’s community leaders. Even if you weren’t in FFA, live in a city, aren’t from a farm and doubt your child will choose a career in agriculture, FFA teaches essential leadership skills that last a lifetime.

And as a plus, We Love our students and cherish watching them learn, grow and become the leaders of tomorrow. FFA is for all, and all are welcome!

2024 FFA Forestry Camp was a huge success. Thank-you to all the Forestry staff that spent the week pouring knowledge into our students.

Forestry Camp day # 4 was a success. The students competed in general knowledge, Dendrology, Timber Cruising, Compass and Pacing and Equipment Identification. Our students did fabulous and made tremendous gains from the beginning of the week until now. I can’t wait for the Forestry competition. I am very proud of all our camp participants.

Forestry Camp day 3 started with a course on Timber cruising, compass and pacing and had an afternoon of special speakers that helped connect students with the Forestry industry. The students ended the night with Forestry Camp has talent.

Students are continuing to learn about the Forestry industry and make FFA friends from across the state. Today we focused on compass, pacing, maps and entomology. The kids worked with their Forests on skits this evening. I am proud of all the Lake Weir kids for choosing to engage, participate and learn.

FFA Forestry Camp is an amazing learning experience for students. Yes, it is hot, but the kids get a chance to interact with a variety of Foresters and learn about Dendrology, Entomology and Compass and Pacing. Today the students focused on Dendrology and ended the night with some music trivia and dancing.

My heart is so happy with our learning landscape. Our students experienced mulberries fresh from the tree this week. For many of the students this was their first time tasting mulberries. I enjoyed seeing their excitement and watching them enjoy this tasty treat.

A special thank-you to our students who volunteered their Saturday to work the event… Thank-you Alyssa, Brady, Brant, Dylan, Jenna, Jordan, and Markaden. You rocked it! Huge thank-you to Bobbi and Art for all the planning and work that went into pulling off such a huge event.

Brady did a great job exhibiting our chapter goat, Bolt. Thank you for working hard to show off our goat in the ring.
