UF/IFAS AGRICULTURE EXTENSION PRESS RELEASE
Marion County Agriculture Extension Director Lynn Nobles announced applications for the Marion County Agricultural Hall of Fame are available and are due by July 22.
Since its inception in 2003, the Marion County Agricultural Hall of Fame has been recognizing individuals who have made tremendous achievements and contributions to the furtherance of agriculture in our community.
Previous Hall of Fame honorees include 33 men and three women credited for their advancement in Marion County's agricultural history. Their contributions include youth education, cattle, citrus, equine, timber, sod, cut flower production, watermelons, seed production, peaches, peanuts, and horticulture, in addition to agriculture innovations, advocacy and historical firsts.
Since the Hall of Fame was formed the number of inductees honored each year has varied. In 2004 and 2005, there were five inductees then six inductees. Other years that there has been only one inductee. In 2019, there was no inductee, in 2020 there were two. Last year the late ag extension agent Mark Shuffitt was the last inductee.
Inductees are commemorated with a bronze plaque featuring their photo and a biographical summary of their dedication to agriculture. The Hall of Fame is on permanent exhibit in the foyer of the extension service auditorium located at 2232 Jacksonville Road near the agriculture extension offices on the grounds of Rowan Agriculture Center complex.
