Did your kids have an amazing time in this summer's Arts For All camp? ☀ Did you have a great time in this summer's Theatrix classes? Keep the momentum going... registration is open now for ALL of Season 74! 📚🎭

We have after-school classes and daytime classes for our homeschooled students this fall and winter. Most youth classes are broken down into age groups 6-8, 9-12, and 13-17. Our special Tech Lab class in the fall is for ages 9-17. Our spring performance opportunity, JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, is for ages 11-17. 🍑 Workshops (other than pre-audition workshops) are for ages 16+. Theatrix classes are for adults (ages 18+). And our long-time OCT friends & family will be frightfully pleased to see that MACABARET is back this fall for our teens! 🎃

And we're very excited this season to offer classes in TWO locations for the first time: at OCT as well as Academy West at Mary Sue Rich Community Center at Reed Place. This is a great way to make our programs more accessible for everyone in our city and (very large!) county. We are grateful to the City of Ocala for their collaboration in this new endeavor.

Classes will fill up quickly, so sign up ASAP!

What happens in fight club (usually) stays in fight club... unless it's a Stage Combat demonstration to (literally) kick off our SUMMER SHOWCASE this Saturday. And it isn't just a demonstration of all the stage combat techniques our 10 students have learned this summer. In theatre, we tell stories with our fights. Come see this cast of characters perform a whirlwind of fight highlights of five plays in 15 minutes. From the works of Neil Simon to Shakespeare to more Shakespeare -- this time with zombies -- it's quite the throwdown showdown! Then Directors Lab is next in the ring to perform their four 10-minute plays. (Maybe with fewer headlocks.)

The showcase is FREE! All are welcome to attend. Donations will be gratefully accepted for the Darrell G. Riley Memorial Scholarship Fund. RSVP here: https://forms.office.com/r/qWr4E8vt1r

So who will you see in this Saturday's THEATRIX SUMMER SHOWCASE? ☀ Here's who's been calling the shots, who's going to act up as directed, and who's going to come out swinging... Come see four great 10-minute plays by our DIRECTORS LAB class (taught by Greg Thompson) and several thrilling fight scenes from our STAGE COMBAT students (taught by Kiara Feliciano and Nic Santana).

The showcase is FREE! All are welcome to attend. Donations will be gratefully accepted for the Darrell G. Riley Memorial Scholarship Fund. 🌺 Come enjoy a fun afternoon of Theatrix and support your friends and The Academy. 🎭📚

Join us THIS Saturday, July 27 at 2 p.m. for our Summer Showcase! ☀ Come see what our Theatrix adult students have been learning this summer in Stage Combat and Directors Lab.

What happens in fight club usually stays in fight club. However, our 10 Stage Combat students will perform a thrilling demonstration of all the ways they've safely and convincingly learned to kick butt on stage, taught by Kiara Feliciano and Nic Santana. It will be a dramatic display that pulls no punches.

Then, we'll shine the spotlight on our four Directors Lab students and the directorial skills they've developed while learning from OCT Executive & Artistic Director Greg Thompson. Our four students also have been directing 16 volunteer actors in four 10-minute plays from the Humana Festival of New American Plays at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. These plays will be brought to life on the OCT stage by our student-directed actors in a production called "The View From Here."

This entertaining afternoon of celebrating theatre education is FREE and all are welcome to attend. Donations will be gratefully accepted for the Darrell G. Riley Memorial Scholarship Fund.

CALLING ALL SUPPORTERS OF OCALA CIVIC THEATRE:

As many of you know, on Wednesday, June 12, Governor Ron DeSantis signed the 2024-2025 State of Florida budget into law. This budget included line-item vetoes totaling more than $32 million, which represents a mere 0.02% of the total state budget and the complete elimination of grant funding for arts and culture across the state. Ocala Civic Theatre is among those directly impacted by this unprecedented decision.

A complete veto of the long-standing Florida Division of Arts and Culture Grants program is unprecedented and came without warning. These cuts are effective immediately and are already impacting more than 600 organizations just like ours. With this cut, we must now work to fill the gap created by the loss of our largest grant of $90,000 just as we begin our new season and our new fiscal year.

Learn more here from OCT Executive & Artistic Director Greg Thompson and find out how you can help support OCT during this vital time: https://ocalacivictheatre.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/FL-arts-grant-funding-cut-Support-OCT.pdf
